Power cabling/radius

So i'v had this idea on my mind for awhile, but with the latest blog which mentioned a new power system i thought i'd finally throw it out there.

So as it stands now, you can build a generator on one side of your camp(even the world?) and have it power things on the complete opposite side. While I'm sure a lot of people would find it very tedious and annoying, but personally having to have generators/batteries within a certain meter radius of machines to power them simply makes a lot more sense. Alternatively(but probably harder/more time consuming to implement) there could be power cables that run from these in the same way you build walls, to either the machine itself or a power distribution hub.

This became real apparent on my last and current play through where i have one part of my base on top of a hill and the other bellow. I only have power generators and wind turbines on the top of the hill, yet the part of my base almost half a KM away at the bottom is getting just as much power.

So what are your guys' thoughts on this, too tedious and annoying or would you be ok with this. Really looking forward to the next update with all the enhanced features!

good idea i think.
when wind turbines start using wind for power you are gonna want to place them in the windy areas, and most likely they are not very flat or a good spot for camps.

Sexy sexy sexy. This is a sexy idea. Although, maybe it's been implemented in the Beta that's coming out! They did mention a power system overhaul!

I bet it's gonna include stuff like this.

Thats my hope and why i brought it up, i really hope they did.

Things like lights on walls wouldn't need batteries or a generator at every single one since you could image there being power cables that run along the wall itself. So as long as you have a generator somewhere near the wall and it generates enough power for all your lights and the wall is connected they should all be powered.

kind of like the idea, but rather than having a "radius" I would like to actually run the cables.
In an old dos game called MAX you had to run power cables to each of your buildings.
no power, no turrets.
I like the idea of that. Adds a bit more to the building end of the game. Don't need to run them to everything, but to a building to power anything attached to the building.
To a wall section to power the turrets and lights on the walls.

However if it's a choice between this and having to find food and water, I go for the food and water.
Sadly I didn't see any mention of that in the blog post :(

there is a lot not mentioned in the Blog post. but hunger and thirst will eventually be a thing.

Anther game that requires you to add power cables to everything is Fallout 4. and its picky about height of the lines. they cant be touching ground or be blocked by something or it wont hook up.

If you do run cables they should not be picky. Just this connects to that. With the option to run them to a battery bank first.

But thinking about it more, I would still like the feature I mentioned before. A circuit board. Where you could turn things on and off from a control panel. You could do the "wiring" on a that so there would be no need to actually show cables on the screen, but you could control what is hooked to what, and then put limits on the range of the connections. Might be an easier way of doing it rather than coming up with a bunch of 3d cables and the graphics overhead that would cost.

Kind of like an electricians mini game. :-)

If we're gonna a go that far, we might as well just have a separate "wiring" UI that lets use control power and wiring easily. I'd like that. Kinda paves the way for plumbing, irrigation, traps, etc.,
