Compass function?

How about implementing a simple N/W/E/S function so that when navigating it is a bit easier to follow your intended goal while rotating. Cuz, if you know that the town is to the north, then suddenly a battle and when it's done you dont need to bring up the map, just remember to conintue north or north west, etc... ?

Hmmm I was so certain this was brought up somewhere else on the forum already, but I failed to find it so I guess it was to wellhidden for me.
Anyway... Yes why shouldn't one have a compass in the game, but then I would actually want to buy one from shop before it shows up. Or atleast the option to.

yes, it's been discussed a lot lol
Considering that later we will have huge armies to control, I don't think buying a compass will have a meaning: eg you either would have to buy a compass for every member or one compass at the start of the game that works for everyone... seems strange
imo what would be more interesting would be the possibility to buy special compass that point to a hidden treasure or something

To many posts is to hard to find sometime *sniffles*
And I was just talking it being one special item you buy once like a special item, perhaps the knowlegde of making a solid compas without having to make a desert compas with the sun or a water compass, something that wont prevent you from moving onwards to check your heading. Like a normal one!
But I assume it is a odd thing I wanted.
But a treasure compass? Im intrigued...

So something like a technology you can unlock. I guess that works

Anyway I'll be happy for anything similar to compass, minimap or waypoints...
(and then we get to unlock the radar, and finally the neutron bomb

)

Yes exactly! Just couldn't come of think of the word technology.
And I dont think you can have a guy walking around with a decent radar, if you not gonna check the speed of the charging cannibals coming your way, and my they look really hungry!

In theory, your main character is supposed to represent you. You are the one giving the orders so only you would need to buy the compass. Kinda like during medieval assault where the leader has one big tent with all the maps and compasses and from there the units receive their directions. Basically the only person that needs the compass is the one giving the directions you. (realistically every soldier has gear and maps, but such an idea would be a bit too complicated).

I would say there is no main character and this is more of a 'God game'. If you made your main character and then obtained a second charater before getting items, gave him the same name and visual look. You could never tell them apart, the closest property that suggests a main character exists would be lost.
Besides a compass as a object is uneccessary, the sun does not move now because there is no programmed cycle for it. But there are more sky maps in the files that are not used. Assuming those resources will be used, the sky is planned to change possibly a day/night cycle as well (seen no sky maps for night though) then the sun and stars would be the best compass.
An on screen compass but no item needed is what I mean.

Pick One,(Either answer 1 or 2)read it then read the bottom sentence in bold.
(Answer 1: Long answer)
** I know what you mean, its just I thought it would be interesting if the player had to buy the on-screen map and (if implemented) the compass. If you ever played the Gothic series or Risen the main person had to purchase a map. (And other maps like treasure maps). In my opinion this made the game feel more in-depth because the player had to actually do something in order to gain knowledge of an area. I never really liked the idea of the player beginning the game knowing exactly every detail of the land (I liked exploring). To be honest it really should be the player's choice as to how they navigate throughout the land.I am not saying that the player should start bare, what I mean is that the player should start with a crude map (and what ever instruments) then be able to upgrade the equipment. Basically, the player pays some gold and then the upgraded map or tool just appears on the screen.
If you chose answer 1 you either explored territory on the Kenshi map or bought a good map and now can see more details (like towns or forts)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Anwser 2: Short answer)
** I am just saying wouldn't it be interesting to have the ability to buy/upgrade the tools available and control what data you see.
If you chose answer 2 you never left Brink or you still have your crude map, you see only the basic details.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In my opinion having a choice on how you obtain data (buying or doing) is far more interesting than knowing everything that exists at start. (Plus I even give you a choice on skipping my unnecessarily long rant)
** However, I agree that a compass, map or other screen tools should just be on the screen rather than a "physical" inventory item. The main character topic was to justify the buying of a compass once, rather than per every unit.
