The Nocturi
Description of Faction
(Chaotic Evil)
Acolytes of the Night and Sorcery – Worship the ‘Dark Whisper’ that calls to all depraved men to murder and pillage and take what is rightfully theirs.
Constantly at total war with the Holy Nation and the United Cities – Soldiers can be seen on both sides battling in various locations of the map.

Appearance of Nocturi

Dressed in Black Monk outfits without sleeves and carry large axes, white ashen skin, reddened eyes. (Possibly scary, demonic, or even monstrous vampiric visual effect to distinguish?)

The Nocturi Hierarchy
Spirit of Desire – Nocturnal (A nearly incomprehensive spirit of nature that seeks retribution against the ‘criminal’ acts of the Holy Nation/United Cities for turning its’ back on the world.
Princess Amara (Highly skilled swordsman who is the direct link to all that Nocturnal asks of His people, she is the Oracle and the Sovereign.)
High Priestess Valarie (Highly leveled ‘Sorcereress’ that leads the rituals to Nocturnal, also guides the Blackhearts in combat)
Blackheart- (Extremely powerful berserkers that worship the Night/Enslave for the Nocturi)
Stalkers - Nocturi Assassins that attack with small blades but excel in stealth and assassination.
Undying Monk – (Converts of the Holy Nation to the Nocturi, stabbed out their eyes and accompany the Blackhearts as Healers)
Blood Knight – (Standard Cannibal or Fogmen who has found the real Darkness to serve.)
Initiate – Chosen who must survive Trial by Combat after murdering plenty of souls.

Homeland
The Snowy East, as well as small caves and pits that can be found throughout the world, but most powerful in the Icy areas. Atop the tallest mountain swirls a spiral of darkness that never ceases and permeates through the area killing off every plant and animal.

The Nocturi Faction Buildings
  • -Grave Town - (Nordic/Puritan Cabin town) where all on the outside seems normal, until you watch the citizens at night down black robes and burn Holy Nation servants at the stake.
-Castle of the Moon - (Highly Protected Castle high up in the dark mountains that houses the Elite Nocturi Cult, as well as Shrine to the Leader, Nocturnal.)
-Cult Hideout - Random locales that pop up across the map where the Nocturi Cult is in control.
-Torture Pit – Random locales of dead stacked men being fed on by carrion, leaving signs of Nocturi involvement.
-Black Forest – Infamous dark (hard-to-see) forest between the Western lands to the Snowy East, known for travelers going missing, houses a coven of female-only witches of the wilds that sacrifice men to the Forest Spirit to keep the lands under constant mist.
Hunger – Tons of Imprisoned Holy Nation and Police that are used as food source.
Temple of Morose – Large and worn down Cathedral that praises the Darkness and the Unholy Lord, Nocturnal.
Joining the Nocturi Cult
In order to join, the player must murder at least 6 Holy Nation/United Cities servants/soldiers in order for a Dark Emissary to arrive in the night to speak with the player and direct them to come alone to the Shrine of Liberation (The heart country of savages and the Nocturi). If the player succeeds then they must undergo Trial by Combat to be the Chosen One amidst those who wish to worship the Night. If the player kills all of his opponents, they receive an eerie whisper that guides them to the top of the tallest mountain to the Castle of the Moon. There the player would find both Princess Amara and High Priestess Valarie performing a grisly ritual of burning a man alive and arguing which piece of the body they would eat first.
  • -This unlocks Missions from repeatable Quest Givers in any Nocturi location, as well as a Faction Bonus to the Nocturi, Fogmen, and Cannibals to 25%, and -100% to the Holy Nation and United Cities.
-Unlocks Cannibalism (Allows player to eat fallen characters raw and restore their life by a small fraction – But if seen by others, is considered crime)
-Unlocks the Hiring of Heretics (Basic follower) and Blood Knights (Warrior followers) in Nocturi zones.
    -Grants player +30 Stealth/Assassination
Missions (Repeatable, reward varies except for +5 to Nocturi, Fogmen, Cannibal factions)
  • -Desecration – Desecrate a Holy Nation’s Shrine to become a Shrine of Liberation (Increases population of Nocturi population in area)
-Betraying the Light - Stop an attack force from wiping out a Nocturi settlement.
-Stopping the Light – Kill any 10 Holy Nation/United Cities soldiers/servants.
-Poisoning the Enemy – Disguise yourself and place poison into water system of Holy Nation/United Cities owned city.
-Demoniac Messages – Paint the doors of three buildings with the blood of innocents in a Holy Nation/United Cities city without being caught. (Will cause some citizens to begin wearing dark robes and speaking of Nocturnal)
-Darkness Beckons – Raid an entire Holy Nation town and murder every Holy Nation servant/soldier, put down the flag of Nocturnal and the Spirit will visit the citizens at night to convert them to Undying Monks or murder them.(Makes the city in control of the Nocturi, may only be performed once the reputation to the Nocturi has reached 100%)
NEW GAME START - The Infernalist
Player starts in Grave Town (Nocturi Faction city) with dark robe, med-katana, and +10 Reputation to Nocturi, Cannibals, and Fogmen - -100% in Holy Nation and The Empire. (Personal advisor to Princess Amara and does her bidding as General of the Nocturi Horde)

Fixed up and made more concise. Bump.

I would love some constructive criticism, as well as a Dev/Mod answer on this. - If any Modders think they'd like to take this on at some point, I would be just as impressed.

With that said, I think having such a dark and malicious faction out there that really means no goodwill towards anyone but themselves, that is joinable, speaks for itself. It not only adds in much more of an Inquisition Feel to the Holy Nation, but also gives credence to their whole insane belief of 'Tainted people' and such. It makes it real.

I do think that this would improve gameplay immensely as a player who chose the more Hero path would have to watch out for yet another threat that's much larger than anything they've faced as of yet - OR to join the Faction and lead the realm into Hell.

(I personally LOVE to play more than your average joe pickpocket or thief or even killer. . I want their to be a slight reward and a group of psychos that congratulate you on your atrocious acts.

Hey guys! Bumping this with a little info. I went through the construction kit and found that making this faction and playstyle come to life is actually feasible. . Though, there's a lot of work and I'm not all the way suited for making it. But I did create a whole faction, added dialogue files, and gave armor to the race of Nocturi (Which was just skinned humans. . But If I could figure out how to brighten the shade on the humans to an Ashen color, it'd be it.)

So. . Not impossible, just a lot of work.

This would make the world a bit more Dark RPG style, which I think is cool. There'd definitely have to be Quests, Special Characters, and somehow, maybe, instancing for when you conquer an area, it auto-fills with Nocturi and their servants.

these kind of fanfictiony custom faction ideas are really well suited to mods, especially if you just use the armor and weapons that already exist in game. Maybe a different logo on some armor here or there.

Having an evil vampire faction doesn't really fit with the rest of the game IMHO. There is no magic in the game, or demons, or really any fantasy elements at all.
