Merged Player Cannibalism Functional Thread
Is it possible that we could be allowed to become a Cannibal?
Perhaps make it have its' drawbacks, such as it being seen as committing a crime if within a major faction's LOS.
There could even be a small questline that could randomly appear that would have you go hunting alone with a group of Cannibals - And it give you the decision to fight with the weak villagers against the small group of Cannibals, OR fight with the Cannibals and make the town into a Cannibal base. . And providing you with the craving of raw flesh.

Now that I've messed around with tons of things in the FCS, I still cannot for the life of me figure out how to give my character the action of eating a corpse and it's frustrating to me haha.
It would definitely be a more cruel, and efficient, way of playing the game. A lone bandit attacks you, you kill them, you eat them. Hunger raises back up.

I think rather than a quest system -- which would rely on faction allegiance defining cannibalism rather than the act, itself -- I think it should just be made realistic.
Cannibals lose their minds, and eventually they die.
So as long as eventually the character starts stumbling occasionally before finally succumbing to Kuru and becoming a mindless zombie before dying soon after, I'm down.

Greetings
Im Three Legs the Bandit from Steam. I posted some suggestions/feedback on the latest Kenshi Steam update page about potential situations wherein player cannibalism could possibly take place once dismemberment is added to the game. I was advised to re-post here.
DISMEMBERMENT - POTENTIAL PLAYER CANNIBALISM SITUATIONS
When dismemberment is introduced to the game there will be severed limbs. Question is what happens when your squad is seriously hungry and an aggressive group wanders past, beats your squad up and chops off a few limbs of a squad member.
1)
Does the squad eat his limbs to survive? or does everyone starve? will it even be an option in-game?
2)
Or if the squad won the battle could we collect the other groups severed limbs and cook those if in a life or death situation?.
3)
Taken further, once dismemberment is introduced can we execute captured people?.
Id vote yes to all 3 points.
PENALTIES
Id add penalties for eating people, like reduced relations with certain factions and / or reduction in HP regeneration over-time. possibly even affect recruitment with some wanting more money to join ie: a 2000 credit payment for a character to join a squad could increase to 10000 if the squad are (experiencing the short/long term effects of being) cannibals.
EXECUTIONS
For executions perhaps it could be exclusive to a crafted item located at a base, like a wooden block for head decapitations. If so perhaps it could simply be a case of picking up a prisoner from a cage, placing them into position on the block then an animation is played which cuts the head off. It would negate random executions in the wild and keep the procedure simple. There would be requirements such as a caged prisoner and block at a base. Could possibly keep the head and put it on a stick outside the base afterwards.
FUTURE OF THE GAME
I personally think Kenshi should move towards releasing multiple DLC`s and not cram everything into Kenshi`s base game. Things like dismemberment have serious potential, so much so it may actually be a sin to release it as part of the base game. Much like my previous suggestion of adding large & small boats / ports / pirates? to Kenshi as a DLC. If released as part of the base game these additions may not be fully explored due to possible funding limitations. I say Kenshi should go the route of Paradox Games with titles like Crusader Kings, Europa Universalis (etc). Kenshi could do it.
DLC EXAMPLES
DLC`s can cross over, each one is a great addition but combined they enrich game-play & increase funding, for example;
* Kenshi Boats, Ports and sea monsters DLC - build boats, large or small, fight/raid other factions at sea, get eaten alive by a sea monster or stay on land and build a port for visitors and make money.
Which would complement ;
* Kenshi Islands DLC - Map expansion, new (small) islands (surrounding the main one) with new races (etc). One could purchase the map expansion DLC and swim to new islands or purchase the boats DLC and do it in style.
OR
* Kenshi Blood & Gore DLC - Dismemberment, cyber-limbs & execution with added blood effects
Which would complement ;
* Kenshi Arena DLC - Gladiator fights, build a Colosseum, visitors pay to watch your gladiators fight. The better fighters they are the bigger the crowds and money will be. It will pay to train up fighters and keep them in good health.
OR
* Kenshi Martial Arts / Unarmed combat DLC - Be like Bruce Lee, fight entire groups bare handed (once trained) and become legend. Plus challenge random people to fist fights for money.
Which would complement ;
* Kenshi Arena DLC AND / OR * Kenshi Blood & Gore DLC
Point is people can mix and match DLC`s to suit their own playing style. Kenshi currently has Steam workshop, which is awesome, but Kenshi should also move towards DLC`s in future so the game remains fresh and well funded down the years.
Id imagine loading up Kenshi and playing the DLC`s, listed below, would be awesome ;
* Kenshi Boats, Ports and Sea Monsters DLC
* Kenshi Islands DLC
* Kenshi Blood & Gore DLC
* Kenshi Arena DLC
* Kenshi Martial Arts / Unarmed Combat DLC
Its got to be better than a base Kenshi game that only touches the surface of its true potential. DLC`s are the way Kenshi needs to go in my opinion.
Im off back to Steam, cya guys soon!
Peace

The Dev does not like DLC's he has mentioned this before.
The Dev has said anything new after full release will come free of charge.

That's great news. Very happy to hear than Chris isn't taking the same route (and often the "easy way out") with Kenshi. It deserves better than "the usual treatment" for sure.Hatsune_Neko wrote:The Dev does not like DLC's he has mentioned this before.

I feel DLC is overused nowadays (having myself experienced gaming and it's trends since the late 80's) and often a poor excuse to release unfinished games with less content than originally planned and have the cheek to charge for it later. Not in all cases, obviously. There are the odd exceptions but they are few and far between. Final release should never be lacking in any way, nor rely on DLC to bulk-out the game or add content that should blatantly already be there.

I hear you guys. Free is the way to go.
Id like to see Kenshi reach its full potential and it would be great if (for example) the DLC suggestions made it into the base game for free. Planned free additions to the game like dismemberment & unarmed combat (etc) are eagerly anticipated.
Things like adding Boats & Ports and/or adding other (small) Islands may be things to consider once the base game is complete, maybe not but the potential is there. Whatever happens id like to see the complete game continue making fresh additions for years to come.
Peace

Personally, I always felt that DLCs were kind of a sell out for the customer. It always starts out small like Kenshi: shark DLC and eventually it digresses until, finally the dev releases something like Kenshi: Space Gansta Ninja Mad Money Adventure........DLC. DLCs make the game feel cheap and makes the art that is the companies dev style feel more generic (to appeal to a wider audience). Glad Kenshi is not another Tropico.
Its not so much about things being free, as it is about features being isolated/removed during development and then being charged on top of the $60 price tag. If you are going to develop a game, put all your features in and sell it at a single price.3 Legs the Bandit wrote:I hear you guys. Free is the way to go.

If the developer has ideas for more content down the road, then they can mix em together and create what was once called an expansion pack. (Which tends to have a lot of content, rather than simply just being a mod....like DLCs are)
Anyway, you never know 3 legs, as Kenshi is still in dev we can wait and see what directions Limb removal takes. Also, I am looking forward to the unarmed combat abilities as well

Hello
An expansion would be awesome and kinda where i was headed over-all. I wouldnt mind DLC`s for a game like Kenshi if it became feature heavy with limited time/funding to add all of them, or as you pointed out, an entire expansion. Kenshi possibly has enough potential it could go on to become a series of games. Unfortunately those games tend to be new and only drawing on the previous game for a back-story - i cri. If Kenshi did create enough content for another game id prefer it to be an expansion for the Kenshi base game and not a new game like Kenshi 2.
Btw, please add decapitation to the limb dismemberment feature. Arms and legs off in battle is cool but chopping prisoners heads off would be awesome. One dude on Steam was concerned he has no way of killing off local groups/prisoners without repeatedly engaging them. Decapitation would solve that imo.
Im off, if i have more suggestions ill make a new thread. Thanks for the replies guys, appreciated and informative. Peace

This is a recurring request aka Killing people when down. or a finishing move. The Dev has talked about this on the Steam forums and if it was added the NPC's would be able to do the same to you.3 Legs the Bandit wrote: Btw, please add decapitation to the limb dismemberment feature. so right now it's mostly like not gonna be added beyond wildlife being killed when you open their inventory after knocking them out.

I know there is a furnace that can be researched for disposing of dead bodies (never used it), however does anyone know if it possible to use on unconscious enemies?

I know this has been suggested before. But with the introduction of hunger, it's seriously annoying that I can't nom on the corpse of enemies as I move, fallout style. There no rules in the wasteland, brah.
I'll see if I can mod it on. But still. It should be a feature.
I'll see if I can mod it on. But still. It should be a feature.
How would it be balanced?
I'm assuming an additional option to the right click menu other than "loot", "carry", "heal" etc is gonna be needed but how much food ca 1 body give you? Personally I'd like to see this implemented as it'd help early on but I feel it should come with a negative affinity rating towards a faction.
Say for example Holy empire - you capture a few of their goons and you don the ribs bib and go to town on their people or turn them into kebabs for use on the road later on, that if you run into their faction in a town for example and they "discover" its human you're snacking on it'd prompt some kind of reaction or explusion from the town more so if the game was able to clue 2 and 2 together and figure it out it was their patrol you've sliced and diced into that pita you're holding.

Balancewise, i would like to mention again the possibilitys of some kind of morale- / personality- / trait- / squadintern-relation- system. It could offer some balancing-possibilitys for many aspects (cannibalism, slavery, thievery, murder, even squadsize or total factionsize[group-integrity]).
Though, i know, it's likely too late for such a new feature.

What about making it a toggleable option when starting a new game, like the option for bandits to loot players.Hatsune_Neko wrote:This is a recurring request aka Killing people when down. or a finishing move. so right now it's mostly like not gonna be added beyond wildlife being killed when you open their inventory after knocking them out.
And depending on the faction and your relation to them would affect how likely they are to kill you, for example Holy Nation would be more likely to execute you, especially if your relation to them is -100 and you're a Skeleton, meanwhile Cannibals would be less inclined to kill you while you're down, due to them wanting to dance around you and eat you alive.
Sure, it could get pretty brutal, depending on your situation, but from a player's perspective (in this case mine), it's pretty annoying when I'm fighting a group of fairly strong enemies that outnumber me, and the ones I knocked out will keep getting up to fight me, because I couldn't just finish them off.
If, though, executing is not going to implemented for whatever reason, I hope another option is added to render enemies incapable of getting up and doing anything. Looting their weapons is not that option, though, due to a) just filling up my inventory, b) they can loot weapons from the ground or other unconscious people, and c) even if they can fight unarmed (until unarmed combat if hopefully implemented some day), they can still heal others around, who will in turn also get up, waiting for someone to fall to quickly go and loot their weapon so they can join back in the fight.
Let there be a "cannibal race." All other races think cannibalism is unacceptable so no one else is capable of eating people.
All the cannibalism trait would do is "Chunks of Chad" to every Humanoid's inventory, or allow a right-click menu add-on or allow cannibals to build a specialized fireplace that consumes corpses and produces "Jim kabobs", what ever is convenient to develop.
Care should be taken so that your cannibal squadies can't make "Ted Tacos" for your non cannibals. Could there be food items that are food for some and not for others?
Balance this ability with the stigmatization from other races or a distaste for technology (-x% science malus). etc.
Let the other races be easily able to identify Cannibals because of the tribal tattoos.

No one would be using it after the first hour of having to restart thier game every 10 minutes after newgame, due to them being executed everytime they go unconscious, or Kenshi would turn into a savescumming game, rather than a rogue-like.Grimmrok wrote:What about making it a toggleable option when starting a new game, like the option for bandits to loot players.Hatsune_Neko wrote:This is a recurring request aka Killing people when down. or a finishing move. It goes against the theme of Kenshi, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
Even the idea of a "Chance" thing.. How many people walk past you while you're unconscious? How many people were present at the time of you being unconscious?
Even if it were a 10% chance that you'd be executed, if you had 10 people present at any time, you'd be dead.
Even if it was 1%, people would still complain that it happens "All the time", because when it does, you feel it more than the times it doesn't. Too many rolls, too many chances, too many times it'll happen regardless of what that chance is. People want it now, but they'll hate it if it ever happens.

I would use it , and al ot of people who like challenge an who play the whole "IF i lose once i restart" mindset would probably like this feature.
i don't see an issue with adding a toggle/more options for people.
I mean its being suggested and supported by some which means there is atleast some demand for the feature.
However i feel if you could enable it in the options you should still have to check a box on your chars to give them permission to kill(or not) . after all even if there are moves the kill you out right. it wouldn't be unrealistic to think you might wish to capture someone alive. so telling your units to try an avoid killing them should be doable.
