For a high level craftsman item alone should act as a manufacturing prototype. I see it in couple o' ways:

- Adding a "Reverse-engineering" tab to the research bench menu, where either will be anything that lacks a corresponding print in a game, or only something that you've put into bench will appear. I.e. you're putting Wakizashi #008 In the research bench, which will be consumed upon start of the research, and then appear for crafting in a weapon smith menu.

- Or, adding a special "Reverse-engineering table" that will consume an item needed to be studied, and produce a blueprint of this item.

UPD:

The more i think of it, the more poorly-thought it appears to me. Sure, design and manner should be relatively-easy to reproduce, but when it comes to metal alloy, or smithing techniques, things gets messy. So, this feature should allow copying with a grade loss, or with a "-copy" affixt after item name, with reduced stats and\or slightly diffirent, but noticable appearance.

I second this.
we're all still learning how to be better people (well, some of us.)

I would heavily consider the way knock-offs are treated in terms of quality already. I can't recall the name of the quality level right now (Metal Purity?) but one is supposed to be a lesser copy of another company's weapons.

Didn't know there was knock-offs already :) but i meant that if a metal item of [Standart Grade] is being copied, the resulting item should be of [Shoddy Grade], and so on.

It's just on the lore side to explain different grades of quality.
