How ? Never use steam beforePain wrote:Switch Steam to "Beta" to register your old key.
Alternatively, wait until Chris has resolved it in a manner, that you can register it without the switch.
What do you mean by "Never used Steam before"?
Why do you so desperately want to register the game key on Steam then, if you don't use Steam anyway? This is more a service for the people who actually want to register it with Steam; if you don't use Steam, well... you don't have to for this game. It plays nicely without Steam.

Go to "Steam -> Settings" (found in left-most drop-down menu).
Click on Beta Participation "Change" button.
Select "Steam Beta Update".
Restart Steam, and let Beta update install.
Select "Games -> Activate a product on Steam..."
Enter your key.
???
Profit!
It worked with my GamersGate key.

Didn't think it really merited a new thread, but seeing as it's related to this, I'll post it here:
After you've redeemed your code and Steam has re-installed Kenshi, can you delete the original files or can you keep them?
I don't really see how it would affect anything, but I thought I'd get a second opinion first, to save myself re-downloading Kenshi if it does in fact screw something up.

Steam will redownload and put Kenshi in the normal Steam folder, so you actually have it twice then. You can unistall or delete your old installation, or keep it as backup.
Edit: Watch it with your savegames though, as they are in the root directory of the Kenshi installation. So you must copy the "Save" folder over to the Steam destination before, if you want to continue your saved game from with your Steam installation.

Apparently Desura keys should work. Did you change Steam to the Steam Beta Update?Pain wrote:It worked with my GamersGate key. If you haven't you can do it by opening Steam, clicking on the "Steam" menu option at the top left of the window, selecting "Settings" from the drop down menu, looking down the "Account" tab for the Beta participation section, clicking on the "Change..." button, then clicking on the drop down menu that comes up and selecting "Steam Beta Update". Steam will update, and the key should work when you try to redeem your copy of Kenshi.
If this doesn't work, wait until they've got the kinks in the system ironed out, or send a message to someone relevant with the know-how to get your problem solved. If I haven't helped the situation at all, just ignore me.
