Thanks for the feedback! Ya it's a very hard line to balance, as you can see from both of your commentspii wrote:I loved all the sounds - the different sounds for each menu was an unexpected and neat idea. The music, the first part, was fantastic. But the classical sounding guitar didn't sit too well with me. I'd like either no melody or something unusual, like in a Japanese scale; classical/European sounding music doesn't fit the atmosphere IMO.

I shall add some feedback here, for Kole's benefit mainly but for you guys to read too.
1- I think the players "ears" should be at the camera position. So sounds would get louder as you zoom in the camera, and drown out as you zoom/move away.
2- I felt the combat sounds were slightly too hollywood. I'd like it to go more of a gritty, dull, realistic direction.
3- The music in the first trailer worked well for a trailer or a titlescreen, but its too heavy for in-game stuff. I think kole's music was better suited for in-game. I also liked the music with the classical guitar, but I feel the guitar would be better as a different instrument, maybe a more eastern stringed instrument.
4- That said, I want the majority of play time to be music-free, just listening to the atmosphere and the lonely wind. Only call the music in now and then, maybe around 10% of the time.
5- I don't know if audio will be moddable. It depends how Wwise works, it might use a closed format.

liked the second set of music. the first one was great as a trailer as Chris said.
But as a game player since 1985, and having had lots of experience with in game music. to this day there isnt a single game where i haven't muted the music cause it would get old fast doing the same thing over and over, also happens a lot with in game sound effects.
maybe Chris should also keep up with that in mind to. im sure he has done the same with any old games he has played in the past and or is currently playing.
Music should have its moments in a game, and not play 24/7 You want it to go with the game and not go Ack!! when all of a sudden the music pops up.
Maybe this will be the first game where i dont go into the options menu and shut off music =(^.^)=
Any ways keep up the good work. cant wait to see whats coming out next.

As long as their is an option to have MUSIC off, I'll be happy with whatever. I don't like playing games with music, can't really enjoy atmospheric sounds and what not with it on.

for this kind of game, normally i would listen to like anime sound tracks but i tend to find it not meshing well with the environment because most samurai related anime sound tracks give this image of trees, so now all i ever listen to when playing Kenshi is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EX1I2LI8Wc8

if not to much trouble, is it possible to upload trailers and such in places that china doesnt ban.
I wouldnt be supprised if china was the only stupid country to ban utube, but it also has billions of people in it (including me).

What video places don't get banned by mad governments? I don't mind if others upload the game trailers to other video hosting sites.

If there does end up being voice in Kenshi, it could be pretty cool for minor NPCs to be voiced by fans and forum members (or maybe major ones, if a forum member happens to be an awesome voice actor). On the other hand, Chris's standards for what goes into the game are quite high, and I'm sure he wouldn't want to hurt feelings by saying, "Look, I appreciate the thought, but your voice doesn't quite fit the feel I'm going for here." I could see the whole situation getting sticky pretty quickly.ozm8 wrote:if you need people for voice acting i can do it, only problem is I have an aussie accent

Not at all a fan of VA. Grunts and such, sure, but full conversations...errr...VA is very much a pet peeve of mine. While I do agree that used well it can add to the immersion, more often then not it's done badly (especially in a game of this scale where you need a huge cast to do it justice.....I absolutely despise the Elder Scrolls games from Oblivion onwards due to their gross over-use of VAs and not enough variety to the point everyone sounds the friggin' same (Morrowind mercifully only VA'd important stuff or greetings which made it more tolerable and you didn't notice as much).
Chris & I have discussed VO a little bit. Nothing is 100% confirmed, but at the moment we believe it's best to only feature vocal exertions (Grunts, Sighs, etc) & potentially single words or very short phrases. There isn't a plan for full dialogue at this moment, but I wouldn't say it's completely off the table. We'll get a better idea of the VO situation as we're testing in-game
As for community VO involvement... hmm, not sure exactly how/where/when yet, but that's sparked a different idea. Something I'll have to run by Chris!
