An idea on how to record the battle sounds don't know if this would work but maybe you could biuld rough versions of the weapons and armor and put the armor on a dummy hit it with the various weapons and for weapon on weapon you could swing them against each other for movement you could actually wear the armor and move around in it run walk jog ect
It might be a fun way to record battle sounds and movement sounds after all if you're in heavy armor when you run jog there would be a very distinct sound I'm sure

Agreed... he made my time in the studio (and editing the session) much easier. A true professional.

Mafearaak - Well that sounds like a lot of fun! However I don't think I'll be taking that specific approach when creating the Combat sounds. I'll be recording bits & pieces all independently of one another so I can manipulate them more easily... then combine them in Pro Tools to create the desired effect.

Can we have more of the main theme song - I'm in love with the snippet in your latest blog, and I'm now super excited to see the rest of it.

Thanks, I'm happy you're enjoying the clip so much! We still have 1 more recording session to go (Taiko, Shamisen, Shakuhachi, etc.) & then after that the Main Title piece should be ready for mixing. After which I'll definitely share some more of it :)

Hello everyone, I'm back with another update. This time both to the Blog & with another video...

Blog: http://kolemusician.com/blog/?p=116

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoKVHOf8Zpg

This time we're talking about the Music System I've designed in "Kenshi" :) The first video shows off a handful of examples, but the 2nd video (not released yet) will go into a lot more detail... for any other game music nerds like myself.

Hope you enjoy!

Just awesome.

I love how you have multiple possibilities in the soundplay and not simply expect this music or other, this will also make it a lot "dynamic" and not allow to be monotonous with always the same sounds playing by, great job Kole keep it up

Thanks everyone, glad you enjoyed the update & video :) Definitely hoping this system helps keep the musical background fresh & enjoyable for a longer # of minutes than most game soundtracks.

Not sure on what'll all be in the next release (as that depends on a few factors), but we have a HUGE chunk of music finished & it's all working in our internal builds of Kenshi. So, perhaps... maybe... if it all goes as planned (but don't take my word for it quite yet!)... all of the music will be in the next update.

That latest video showing the dynamic music was just crazy... all the different instruments and sounds came together in such an awesome way. I'm an audiophile, so I'm usually picky, but I thought that was just epic. It gave me chills. Atmosphere is something game music composers are so bad with, usually. They are more about creating good music first, and atmosphere second in priority. Hopefully this will trump everything I've heard, which it sounds like it already will.

Hey Kole,

Just want to personally thank you.
Chris did a great job picking you for this. You have some fantastic ideas, and it will just add to an already great game. I don't know all the work that goes into making good and meaningful audio for a game, but I imagine it's hard since most titles, tend not to give it so much love. Kenshi is different though, damn Kole, you're really doing something different here. Thumbs up!

Thanks Toxiciron & Harnesh, I appreciate it :)

It's always nice & humbling to read responses when people enjoy the Music from the videos, but it's an extra treat to get a thumbs up from people who understand a bit about the challenges of creating a relatively new music system like Kenshi's. I wasn't really sure if it would work out when I initially thought it up, but have been pleasantly surprised :D Thanks!
