Can you save with only the demo?

Can I save my demo samurai? And then continue the demo samurai? Can I continue my demo samurai after I buy the game?

Yes and yes.

First is first hand, second is based on reading bug reports where it wouldn't save that someone had purchased the game, which only prevented him from issuing orders and further gaining skills.

Saving is done with the F5 key, loading via the F9 key.
