What kinda period we lookin at?

Im just wondering if any one can fill in the world of Kenshi time compared to ares.

They have electricity but no guns
They have robotic arms (Future update from what Ive heard) but no way to mass produce them, or any thing for that matter,
They have deep water pumps but don't use the pumps for anything else.


Just compairing the world of kenshi to ours,
Kenshi is a world of desolation,
where a legend can dissapier in the sand and never return
Where water is every where if you look under ground but none of it dare touch the surface
Where a sword has power and a gun never invented,
blood covers this vast desert, but never stains
This is kenshi, You are dead

there is none.

The Dev has not created a backstory for the game. all we do know is that its not of earth, most likely not in the same dimension or possible alternative universe. and it has no connection to earth at all. It is also "not" post apocalyptic.

And thats all thats known of the history of Kenshi.
So far the Dev lets us make up our own history of kenshi, so you can make it whatever you like.

I've always seen it as being post-apocalyptic, but many generations after (long enough for the land, plants, and animals to re-stabilize). Where some old technology still exists, but many of its fundamental concepts have been lost. But yeah, it's more or less intentionally left blank history-wise. The only history that matters is the kind you make now.

My understanding is that the world of Kenshi exists in a distant part of our universe whereby due to the physical laws of our universe allows for anthropomorphic life to arise where intelligent life is allowed to exist.

Or

Kenshi is in a parallel universe to ours that depicts a completely different evolutionary timeline following the same physical laws as our universe, allowing for anthropomorphic life along with the "alientacular" beasts that will eventually make their way into the game.

Kenshi is a crash place of a spacecraft from earth. it was intended to be a colonization mission, but in another planet. but things went wrong. and the spacecraft crashed in the harsh world of kenshi. those who survived, started a colony there, hoping that someone will come to the distress beacon. but they never came. afters a few years of order, it was clear that no one will ever come. so there was no more reason to mantain the previous social orders. the mighty captain of the ship, the honored General Kenshi, now was just some half bald guy in his late 60`s.... and so it begun. the fight for survival very soon destroyed any glympse of civilized life. all that remained of cience is a descendant of an original colonist, who was some sort of artist in swordmaking, Lucious Brink. back then those where intended to be used for amusement and esthetic display.... but now that knowledge, allowed him to start an empire in that forsaken world. with fierce hand he ruled an increasingly wide territorie... but it was a mather of time that the know how of swordmaking started leaking... not as perfect as the empires swords, but just enough, all clans begun manufacturing these deadly items. some shreds of knowledge still remains, but most are lost. the empire and the clans are now in a constant stale mate. they forces have reached a perect state of balance.... but there is a rumor, that one of the grandsons of Lucious Brink has found a book, writed back in earth, that shows how to make legendary sword blades.... and it has begun to gather people around to start a second empire that can unify the land under one ruler.... (and guess who would that be)

Ooooh! I like this one. Nice tying together of themes. No firearms because no one has figured them out yet. Wierd alien animals because they are aliens, duh. No history because the ship crashed. One simple tweak to the graphics using hull plates as doors and roofing material and presto! it's a lost colony game. And sword making in reality is hard. Crappy swords will shatter, rust, bend and break. Making katanas took someone seriously creative and clever to come up with the idea. The idea that someone had enough knowledge of it to make a few masterpieces is cool. I also like the idea that maybe the planet they are on lacks some critical resource needed to make gunpowder so any guns that might have existed ran out of bullets long ago.
