It's useless to try to protect a game or anything, from pirates. They will always win. All the developpers effort should go into making the game good, so people want to play and support. Anti-crack systems are only a trouble to honest players who don't know how to deal with some shit protective system (have to be online, register, get spammed, enter a key, install heavy tiers program, lose performance, get ejected from game, etc).
As for myself, i sometimes pirate a game as a "demo", and mostly always, i buy it then (if i don't it's because it's not good). I did that with Kenshi (pirate "demo" before buying) and it not the first nor the last time i act so.
I am an "indyvore", i try a lot of indy games, and i support them, with money but also with advertising on some french communities. I don't buy AAA game, i think the last one was Skyrim, because i am (or was) a fan of The Elder Scrolls since Arenal and Daggerfall.
Without pirates, i would have not buy Kenshi (and many others). Thanks to them, i am now a happy owner of an amazing game (and i'm waiting for an update to enjoy it more).
(edit : first post, oh ! I'm lurking here for several months already, didn't noticed i've never posted before)
