Working on the heavy, distant AI code right now and I am seriously wondering if single core CPUs will be supportable for the game. So I'm wondering do any gamers actually have single-core CPUs anymore?

The CPU requirement should be at a similar level to the graphics and RAM requirements, in my opinion: if the game can be run on 512MB RAM and a GeForce 4 32MB graphics card, then single core processors should definitely be supported as they'd be the only processors in a rig with the other two. On the other hand, if the game requires 2GB RAM and a GeForce 6800 or equivalent then chances are anyone with those will have a dual core CPU at minimum.

Yeah, it ain't gonna run on a geforce 4 thats for sure. I think 2 cores is probably a safe bet.

Mine's a dual core AMD Athlon64 3800+. I've had it for a while, and can't actually upgrade it now until I just go ahead and build a brand new rig.

I'm on a laptop that cost me $450 and it was an open-box, so I'm not sure the actaul value of it. But my cpu is an AMD 2.0 GHZ dual core. I think, as long as the game can be set to low enough specs to run on a 1.6 ghz dual core, you should be fine. I'd aim for a dual core 2.0 - 2.4 (with matching ram/video card/etc) to be able to run the game perfectly.

Just my 2 cents on the subject.

The processor of a computer has one or more cores, each core essentially being a second CPU that shares the same resources. Because a CPU is only capable of performing one task at once, each additional core improves the speed. A Core 2 Duo has two cores, as do the more recent AMD processors, while a Core 2 Quad has four, quadrupling the potential speed for all programs capable of taking advantage of it.

Quad. Q9550, running at 3.4Ghz.

I think you should develop mainly for quads, considering Kenshi won't be complete for a while.

Sexa and octa-cores are just around the corner and last I checked AMD had plans for a 12-core server CPU in 2010. Who knows what will be around by the time the game is complete, but you can be pretty sure that quads will be on the low end of the spectrum and dual-cores will be limited to netbooks and the like.

Damn those CPU developers, we can't use 8 cores!

2 people have voted for single core. Can anyone with a single core system give me their system specs? And maybe a Haiku about how few games you can play.

Well, I have a laptop and a desktop. The desktop has a Pentium 4 2.8 GHz, 1 GB RAM, NVidia GeForce 6800 and Windows XP Home. I can get up to battlefield 2 working (at minimal graphics options). Anything beyond that and it explodes.

But ya, that's my oldy. Had that thing for like 6 years. Maybe 7. Laptop specs are in a previous post.

-currently- running a dual core, but, im building a new rig in a few weeks, maybe a month, then going i5, lol

personally, the sweet spot for rigs seems to be that people replace around every three years, and at the time they put between 400 to a grand into it. this is just based on personal experience and what ive observed, however, most of my freinds fit into one of two catergories, being, needs help to access email, or high end gamer, lol

though as far as im aware, most of the retailers dont even sell single core anymore, if they WERE going to go single, they go mini-ITX with the atom instead, usually the dual 1.6 model. and no one that builds their own machines would put a single in, people that build their own tend to put in whatever they can justify, lol

Hi, I know this post is rather old, but I rather not clutter up the threads with redundant posts. Since the demo is going to be released in the not so distant future (less than a week estimate? (Do not quote me on that)) can we get a system requirements update.

In this post you asked people their system specs (or at least the cores) to get a general idea as to, I'm guessing, is the average consumers system capabilities.

Here is my system specs:

E8400 Core 2 Duo 3.00 GHz CPU

Evega Nforce 750i FTW mobo

Duel Nvidia 9600Gt 1Gb DDR2

Kingston Hyper-x 1066 4GB DDR2 (thinking of upgrading to 8GB)

1100 Watt power supply

Somewhat outdated, but I will eventually upgrade.....after I tame the ever-growing mountain of bills.
