I learned a lot from kenshi.

Kenshi was in early access for a while. it's a big game, that was innovative, and innovation takes work. I fell in love with kenshi back when the holy nation wore red and the only biome was the desert. it was such a crazy concept to get the shit beaten out of me, but carried to a bed because i had high faction rating. In hindsight i don't see that in kenshi proper, but i am not sure if that is because the game changed, or if my play style changed.

But what made me love kenshi, was when i reported a small bug, wolf dens spawning in ruins, and the dev fixed it the next day, that i truly loved the game. The fact that someone listened was mind blowing. never in my years of gaming had i encountered that. to this day it sets the standard for how devs should act, and it vindicates the early access program. Kenshi still sells, people still play it, and the lessons learned for both the dev and others who observed are deep.

I am bringing this up, not because of horrible sales from AAA games at this time, but because the lessons i learned from this community i carry over to other early access games. I am more polite with my suggestions, I am more patient, and i try to give as much detail as i can with my bug reports.

I learned this from kenshi. because it was a project of passionate people, trying to make a game.

:/end rant.

It’s rare to find that kind of responsive development, especially from early access games. My experience with smaller indie games has been similar - they often have a strong connection with the community, and when devs listen and fix issues quickly, it builds real loyalty. I’ve found that it makes me more patient and detailed in my feedback as well, knowing that the developers truly care.
