One thing about Project Zomboid is that their forum is too out of control. So they have to spend time addressing that. Also they have/had issues with paypal and possibly some other sites. I enjoy Project zomboid, but the devs need to get their act together.

In my opinion, all large-scope programming projects, even when done by a very small team, should be uploaded to a secure SVN server. Not only to prevent the loss of progress due to hardware failure, but also so the project can be worked on any computer anywhere. If additional people want to assist in pushing the project along, it can rapidly be acquired and updated. Even if you're just one guy, it makes some sense to manage a secure SVN somewhere.

I disagree with your assessment of the Zomboid team. I think they do an excellent job. In addition to that, their recent delay (after a series of maybe 5+ mini-updates in rapid succession) has been thoroughly explained on their forums in it's own sticky.Krask wrote:It makes me truly relieved that every time I come to this website there is some kind of progress report that wasn't there the previous time. Whereas each month I go check out project zomboid to find another half assed excuse why the next update is going to be delayed for the 12th time.
Either the developers of project Z are amateur and it takes forever to do nothing, their engine is super hard to code, or they truly don't care. Enough ranting though, as I said previously it's awesome that things are moving forward with this game. Gj
It's not half-assed. That's what they're trying to prevent; half-assed updates.
I agree with you disagreeing (that makes no sense...) xD I've been playing Project Zomboid for a while (I pirated it at first because I was a bit skeptical.... Zomboid is going very slowly, although to be fair, the recent delay in 0.2.0r was a monster graphical bug from what I heard
Project Zomboid is going too slow imo, the version i have (Desura) is now almost 1 year old.. kind of surprised me that they don't do more frequent updates than that.. arent they a full team even..?

No no no, that is the latest OFFICIAL release. Go to their site to get the latest beta, it's quite a ways past 1.5d. The beta releases are around monthly on average I think.
That's still unprofessional. the problem with the surges in indie games lately is that there are also surges of unprofessional teams; even if they have good idea's they seem to lack organisational skills and/or an ability to work together.

Aha, thanks.ThunderJones wrote:No no no, that is the latest OFFICIAL release. Go to their site to get the latest beta, it's quite a ways past 1.5d. The beta releases are around monthly on average I think.
Blxz : i think that's a very common problem, i can definitely see why Chris prefers to do Kenshi by himself and then hire people to do specific things for him.

Their current stable build is 0.2.0q which was released roughly around 4/4/12, with several revisions. They also have several experimental builds. The Indystone team is implementing some drastic changes that will change the style of project zomboid. The main changes seem to be the switch to a different style of "using" the melee attacks (from point and click to click/hold/release which = swing) and adding a proper target system for guns(along with more guns) Additionally, I believe they were also thinking of changing the graphic style, but I am not sure of that. Now try dropping these changes on a (at the time) very volatile project zomboid forum, and you have what looked like a cyber riot.(with many locked threads). So it seems that the Indystone team is locked between implementing some drastic changes and dealing with its opposition.

For 2.0r they are redoing a large chunk of the graphical engine to make graphical development alot alot alot faster.
