Best equipment?

Where is the best equipment? My character has recently....inherited a lot of wealth from an unlucky trader. I have a little over 60K and a trader backpack still waiting to be unloaded so cost is irrelevant.
I want to know where people can find the best armour, pants, shoes, hat and katana weapons in the game. Or if they are randomly spawned and I am better off just restarting a file in Brink each time and checking the shops there. Any suggestions?

Items are random, I Think the level of equipment a trader sells is also random. I havent noticed a theme through the many new games i have played. Just try them all till you find the best on in your game.

In that case, what are the best armours that people have found? I can't remember what they are called. Haven't played much for a long time but with this new feature drive Chris is doing I am getting back into it.

not sure if it was random but i tend to find better gear to the far southeast.
the medic armor seems to be the best ive found. like you i have not played much.

What are the stats on the medic armour? I recall somehting called medium plate by Rags and Co. might be good. But I get confused sometimes as you probably could guess from my posts.

my mistake. my best armor is medium plate by rags and pirates.
.5 - .52 on protection
some guys have light plate that covers arms and shoulders only. .5ish as well

The best armor I've found is 0.7 protection:

Best pants I've found (plated trousers with this amount of protection seem very rare):

ooooo nice stuff. come to think of it my main character has that medium armor.

Is it completely random? I wonder if there is any weighting to certain shops to carry better stuff?
Alternatively is there is an NPC that carries anything good?

The Empire Patrols carry some high value stuff and are relatively easy to beat.
And Brettflan, I think about 6 of my 15 guys have those plated trousers. They're amazingly common. But I do tend to loot Caravan guards and slaughter patrols. Herp derp.

Maybe I'm just unlucky. To be clear, I've found plenty of plated trousers (mostly rusted), but not with that level of protection. The rest are .4x or .3x protection. I've only found one pair like this with 0.56 protection.
Are there any better pants available?
