Cooking and campfire help, please

I've played Kenshi for more than 200 hours, but not since the beta version was released. Not until now. So,... I'm wondering about food, since that's entirely new to me.

I just started the game (6 days, much of that locked up in a cage). I've been buying food, so far, but just now I looted a bone dog for some raw meat. Can I cook it somewhere before I get around to establishing a base? (I'm far from that point, right now.)

I checked the wiki, and I've done some searches here, so I know that I'll be able to build a stove, eventually. But I also saw something about cooking over a campfire - only nothing about how to make a campfire. How do I start a campfire in the wild?

Otherwise, are there places in towns where I can use a stove or campfire to cook this meat? Or should I just trade it for bread? Thanks!

PS. As I say, I haven't played Kenshi since it was in alpha. So when I started, I walked into an open building in the Holy Nation - during the daytime and everything - and became a criminal, almost immediately. Lost my club, too. :(

I'm still not sure why I was attacked. But after a couple of tries, I succeeded in escaping (5,000 cat bounty on my head), so I'm doing OK. But I think I'd better head for another part of the world for awhile. As I say, I'm doing OK, but there wasn't hunger in the alpha version of Kenshi, so I'm lost when it comes to cooking and campfires.

Help, please?

build a campfire any place then place the meat inside
set job to cook or simply right click on the campfire and it will cook all the meat inside.
also cooked meat is an ingredient in a lot of food. so keep it around. and you can feed your people with it too. so bonus.

as for the HN and instant crime. are you a different race/gender perhaps? have narcotics of you? wearing stolen armour/weapons? are you a skeleton?

How? That's what I don't understand. How do I build a campfire?

I tried using a stove inside a bar, but nothing happened when I selected "use," and when I tried "loot," I could see the input and output (both empty), but couldn't cook anything there. There was a campfire in my starting village that worked, eventually (it didn't do anything the first couple of times I tried it), so I know how campfires work, if I can figure out how to build one.

I've just been selling the raw meat and buying dried meat. Since the price is nearly the same, that hasn't been a big problem. But I'd still like to know how to build a campfire.

No, I think I just walked into a building that was supposed to be "private," not "public." I was accused of trespassing and assault (the latter because I automatically resisted arrest, I assume). In the alpha version of the game, I could go anywhere if a door was open, so I didn't expect to have a problem.

But I'll test this by returning to that same city now that my bounty has expired. :)

Thanks for the reply.

you go into your build menu
go to camping, select campfire
when you find a place the game will let you place it. put it down

as for the stove in the HN city, you can't use it.

OK, thanks. I didn't even know there was a 'camping' section in the build menu. :)

I need to stop assuming that the game works the same way it did when it was in alpha. I haven't even looked at the build menu, because I wasn't ready to build a settlement or to even start thinking about that. It just didn't occur to me that I could start a campfire from there.

Thanks for the help!
