This game

Hi guys. Recently looked up this game and I was wondering is it worth the buy? Not many recent videos on youtube showing features and stuff. I have a few questions to ask:

1. Is the developer still actively developing the game?
2. Around how many hours of gameplay can I get in the current state of the game?
3. Are there mods?
4. Is the future of the game looking good? I bought too many early access games only to be disappointed by abandoned development.

Thanks guys

1. The game is still very much being developed. in fact it's nearing the end of the development process with the last few major content updates coming soon.

2. endless amount, i currently have 1834 hours recorded on steam, not including offline hours. and i'm still playing.

3. there are Mods on the steam workshop and on several other sites including here.

4. believe i answered that in the 1st question. plus the Dev ahs plans to continue work on the game, including bug fixes, some Free DLC that will include features that the Dev didn't have time to add into the game before needing to move into other development projects.
One which is another DLC that will add all new content and features. plus his plans to make other games.

I'll provide my own input, which is pretty parallel to that of Neko:

1. Updates roll out in bursts, but are still fairly consistent. Since late 2015/early 2016, the game has achieved much in the way of new content, bug fixes, and quality-of-life improvements which were much needed. Though it experienced a speed bump this year with minor radio silence a couple months ago, it has since recovered and demonstrated remarkable improvement. Lately, as Neko mentioned, have been many minor and in some cases major updates (and bug fixes) tying directly to the release of a major content drop: one that will wrap up most of what's left to be released.

2. I've played the game for 435 hours in total, making it my most-played indie game on Steam (unless you consider GarrysMod an indie game). Believe me, I've played a lot of indie games (though not all of which have been on Steam or belonged to me personally), so for me to play this the most is astounding.

3. Plenty. I myself have even developed a couple ones, though they were nothing special. The game features a very comprehensible and flexible development kit you can launch at start-up, which also allows you to upload your mods directly to the Steam Workshop. It has shortcomings (as would any development kit as comprehensible and simple as this one), but I feel the benefits outweigh them.

4. Though many years ago the future looked dull and dim (lots of inactivity in terms of development and radio silence), the past couple years have looked remarkable. Massive overhauls in terms of graphics, the world map, and assets dare to define it as a separate game entirely from what it was back then. I've talked to a few long-time Kenshi veterans that say this: even in the face of financial collapse, the game will still see some development simply due to the fact it's a project largely driven by passion. I anticipate that, at the latest, the game will be out of early access by mid-2018, though I'm fairly certain there's a planned deadline for late-2017.

I hope that answered your question in full. If you have anymore questions, please feel free to visit a community Discord I help run. :)

I'll going to throw my five kopeikas as well, and i'll be short.

1. Yes, and it seems like the final stretch.
2. Many weeks! Since there're no set goals, it's pretty much limited by your imagination.
3. Yes, a whole lot of them.
4. Looking good, indeed (see point 1), game is getting more polished with each update.

Just wanted to give my mention on number 2.

I'm the kind of person who cannot watch a movie more than once. I play a game once, and tend to move on even before i finish it (It's an old joke) because I lose the momentum of experiencing new things. I'm always needing something new, and repetition/repeats get old extremely fast for me. I've been on steam for 9 years now, own 333 games, and a very small fraction of those games have over 100 hours in them. If a game reaches 300 hours, it's a miracle, honestly.

I currently have 1,177 hours in Kenshi, marking the only game in my library that's reached over 1k hours. The runner-up is slightly over half this.

It's like an addiction. Once you start, unless you manage to quit early, you're in it for the long-haul, and it just doesn't seem to get old.
Since it's a sandbox game, the amount of time you can get out of it depends on how interested in the scene you are. So long as you just simply play the game, you should get as many hours out of it as you wish to.

Might as well throw down my two cents as well (With all this cents tossed around you may need a cup to put it in)

I was a member since 2011, and.... still here I am.

Not many RPG/RTS type games let you develop a settlement (if that is what you are into) anywhere you please, and when they do, it usually is not on a map this big.

Also not many games give you the option to create (from scratch) every member of your party (with whats the max, like 30 units) and take ALL of them with you on your adventures/raids/shenanigans.

The game offers a ton of flexibility with a range of different environments, however there is no main story/quest, or end-feature/game (as of yet).

Basically, you choose a start condition and with the resources given you.....do whatever you are in the mood for.
EX: start city, attack city, rob, sell, sneak, hunt, open an Ikea/Mc Donalds etc.....

-----------------------
1. Is the developer still actively developing the game?

Yes.
-----------------------
2. Around how many hours of gameplay can I get in the current state of the game?

It all depends on your play style. There is no main story, this game is sand-box.
------------------------
3. Are there mods?

There is a built-in editor and, in terms of mods:

Mods page
-------------------------
4. Is the future of the game looking good? I bought too many early access games only to be disappointed by abandoned development.

I know the feeling, way too well. No this developer team is stable/active.

Hope this helps, and welcome to Kenshi forums!
