Was about to pre-order Kenshi....

As the title says, I was all ready to pull the trigger on this game, looks like a good idea for an in depth RPG experience.

Look at the list of system requirements, as I always do before a purchase, and saw the one thing that means I will never purchase this game.

"Realistic physics simulation. PhysX Technology provided under license from NVIDIA "

I do not support the use of things that create unnecessary divisions in PC gaming.....other choices are available, so why choose one that alienates around 40% of your potential customers.

Anyways, well done on crafting what looks like an interesting game and good luck with it upon its release. For me, I'll be spending my money elsewhere with a developer that respects that not everyone has the ability to run PhysX without severely impacting their performance.

What do we get here ?
Yet another user, who does not understand the difference between GPU PhysX effects and CPU PhysX engine, that is used in like 400 games ?
Indeed, see ya.

You are confused. It's just a physics engine, used for collision. You don't need an NVIDIA card to run it. A large proportion of modern games use PhysX and you probably don't notice.

Let's face it, you're a monster... :P

I have a genuine question relating to this topic however - will there be a stage (at some point in the future) where the specs to run this game will be greatly increased? The latest update with the shaders and shadows did make an impact on my fps, so I had to downgrade the quality a little.

I was wondering ultimately if when other features are added and there are several processes running simultaneously whether there would be some optimization for those with lower specs, or whether I'd need to start shopping around for upgrades?

Maybe take this PhysX thing out of the splash screen/product description, and people get less confused. Now that you've gone mainstream, you have to adapt to the "less gifted" as well. :D

The PhysX logo is a legal requirement.

Performance will struggle more when I add the new, more detailed character artwork in, but I will also optimise the performance over time to try and balance it out.

How about adding the additional info "Does not require an NVIDIA graphics card to work" in the description, next to the PhysX text? People might still be confused, but you might get at least a bit less noise because of this.

 they'd have to run the game before seeing the splash screen

I don't see what the OP was on about. There's a clear difference between GPU and CPU physX effects, but even if he clearly doesn't know about that, he's way disrespectful for someone talking about "developers who respect players". Respect goes both ways buddy...

Is there a game that uses that GPU nvidia physX gimmick not as an option but as an obligatory feature? I don't remember any game like that :?:

Nothing I am aware of, there are probably some tech demos though. This is like people complaining about tessellation in games that weren't out yet because AMD couldn't handle the feature as well as Nvidia. While it was a fact that Nvidia could have handled a ridiculous amount more tessellation than AMD at the time, the games that came out featuring this had limited tessellation well within what an AMD card could handle. In fact, that particular point of contention stopped being an issue after people got the software and ran it. To date no game has included a slider so that the game looks prettier/has more tessellation on an Nvidia card, and AFAIK GPU PhysX has never been a requirement. Of course, unlike the issue with tessellation (baring future sliders enabling larger amounts of it), you can have fancier graphics with GPU PhysX enabled in a variety of games.

Of course, Kenshi doesn't use PhysX for destructible environment calculations, particle generation, or even cloth physics. So CPU PhysX is plenty.

Yeah my AMD Radeon Overheat my room series runs this just fine.

Lol! Physx isn't exclusive to Nvidia cards, as Chris pointed out. And I doubt the way Chris has it implemented it will impact performance at all.

Wait, how was this percentage even calculated?

The OP is absurd and is clearly misunderstanding everything to do with the world as a whole, diversity is important as it creates competition, which in turn drives up quality.

PhysX is a great engine and isn't even Hardware based.

I am interested in where the 40% marker came from, you need to cite claims such as these, otherwise people will just disregard what you said.

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2 ... e-from-n/1 AMD GPU market share.

In the past, when I see a game uses Physx, when enabled it usually gives a performance hit to AMD users. Look at Borderlands 2, when I turn on decent levels of Physx, the FPS levels drop dramatically compared to similar spec nvidia cards.

The most valuable trait anyone can have on a forum like this is knowing when to stop arguing for something you've learned is wrong.
