What's possible in this game?
I have heard of this game before when it was on Indiedb or something like that, and I liked the concept but never really paid any mind to it. Since it is on Steam now, I think I want to check it out since it is pretty cheap for what it says it offers, but what does it really offer? I've seen the trailers and read up on the site, but what are the really cool things that can be done? I see all these differing factions, but what do they do to interact with each other? Will they fight each other in open battle and try to take over towns if I just keep to myself and want to farm, for example? Can I join them? Can I start my own faction with its own name and try to take over all the other factions as I make my way from town to town instilling my will? Sorry if this seems like a lot of questions, but I am highly interested in this game and just want to how "open" it is.
Yes you can start your own faction and name it. Currently your faction can't have npc's (villagers etc), just the playable characters.
Factions will eventually be waging war on eachother, conquering cities and the like, but it isn't implemented yet. Joining an existing faction is also not in the game yet.

Alright, sounds cool. I read that the world revolves even if Im not there. Is this really true? Say, for example, an Army marches across multiple towns and takes them over; will there be evidence of that as in corpses and once thriving towns rendered ghost towns?
Oh, and one more question: do dead bodies stay on the ground without disappearing?

Yes, that's how it's intended to be in the future. You won't be in the center of the action like in other games which means for example, that if you go to a village and hear rumors about a bandit band planning to attack that village, you could on your own decide:
- to protect the villagers from the imminent attack or
- send a preemptive strike on the bandit camp or
- just watch from afar and come back later to scavenge what's left (or finish the job) or
- you could go away and pray for the villagers that their feeble defences will withstand the attack
The same can be said about factions and the rest of the game.
Actually not long ago, i went to a village to exchange some bandit leaders and ninja jounin for their bounties at the local police station and when i arrived the story unfolded on its own:
no guards at the gate, bad sign...
My squad prepares for battle (taking of backpacks etc) I enter the village and see bodies littered everywhere. I could almost hear my main character taking command: "Secure the area, set up a perimeter and search for survivors, heal the wounded!"
I thought about how i just arrived on the aftermath of a pretty huge battle, i can't have that feeling with a scripted event. What if i had arrived sooner, would this people still be alive, could i have made a difference? How long ago was the attack, could i go in search of the bandits that attacked?

You should always proofread carefully to make sure you didn't any words out.

Your post has kind of sold me on the game now. It sounds like those old samurai movies with a basis on American westerns. Sounds awesome. Is he desert terrain just place holder, or will there be more varied terrain? I love the sound of dynamic events such as that
Don't forget that "quests" are not implemented yet, but yeah the freedom you have is just awesome in this game.
Right now you'll get primarily into fights with sometimes some moments like the one i talked about that are quite fun with some imagination (if i had arrived sooner, i'm not sure i would have sided with the townguards actually, i mean those merchants have delicious loot
) or you'll be a merchant or build a base or all together.
Try the demo, after reaching a 2 man squad with 20 skills, you'll end up buying it anyway then
ps: The desert is a placeholder yes, part of it may still be present in the final version, but most will be changed. Chris wanted to make a huge map, but now he's more thinking about a world that will be a little smaller than planned (but still bigger than what we have now) but better filled.

Alright, I thought that the desert was an aesthetic choice lol, but I feel like it goes well with the game for some reason. I can't wait to see some diversification though. What intrigues me now is the multiple play styles that the game can have. What is the police system like in this game when it comes to taking up smuggling, or what will it be (if anyone knows)?

We haven't been informed of what the consequences of smuggling, say, narcotics will be. Currently there are none, but the description of the item seems to indicate that there are plans for this in the future. Currently Chris is working on fleshing out the base building and adding weapon and armor crafting.
