Has Chris_the_Great ever played DF(http://bay12games.com/dwarves/) just wondering.
I think it would be awesome if the Devs would trade some notes.

I have tried but couldn't get into it. The interface is far too clunky and unintuitive, you can't do anything without reading how to first. Just because a game is complex doesnt mean it should be hard to use. I do like the idea behind it and the complexity though.
Please don't add Dwarf Fortress AI, the last thing I need is my large town ,that has taken me weeks to make, spiral into chaos and eventually destroy its self because some idiot got drunk and fell down a well setting of a tantrum cascade.

Was directed here by Bay12, the forums that are based off of Dwarf Fortress' home website. Link to the topic. The idea of Dwarf Fortress' interface isn't to make it impossible to approach, but rather a victim. Toady One, the creator of the whole shindig, likes to just add whatever he feels like... and he doesn't really feel like doing an interface fix. I kind of think it's the community's fault for that... see, a ton of people CAN play it, and they're like minded, so as long as they can understand the interface he won't really need to fix it. Eventually it'll get to the point where it's impossible, and maybe then he'll fix it around.

The interface isn't so bad IF you get used to it, though you will need some third party programs such as Dwarf Therapist once you get over 20 dwarfs to manage.
Even if you can't get into the main game, Adventure mode is still quite fun. If your idea of fun is hacking off the enemies arm and then beating him unconscious with it. Only to then chop out his teeth and use them as throwing weapons to slaughter the rest of the village and ... What, don't look at me like that!
But yeah, DF is quite fun, the ‼interface‼ is a huge obstacle for most human beings. Toady will have to get around to that eventually. In the meantime, you could try goblincamp, which is a bit similar (and there's nothing wrong with sharing some similarities with something), though the interface is much cleaner (and mouse-controlled!!)
