Hey guys,

I saw this game on steam and was intrigued. Later I find out a buddy of mine has this so I'm like, cool lets play it, since him and I are like-minded on games. I have a problem; what in the hell do I do? I've watched a few tutorial videos and basics stuff and asked my friend and he really kinda dodged my question by saying "to each their own" or some philosophical crap. Any advice for people BRAND SPANKIN NEW to the game? I feel I have the mechanics down, and the details can be learned with trial and error, but my question is; where in the heck do I start?! (sorry if this is the Xth instance of this sort of topic)

Just kinda walk around killing things and let the game happen from there. Once you get five or so people with superpower-level abilities you could try wiping out towns.

wander around, explore, get more people in your team, train them, buy building materials and with those build your town, buy houses in other towns, trade and get rich, wipe out towns, eat bees

I'm not sure exactly what sort of info you're looking for, but I'd be happy to tell you what I did. I started with the trader story, and immediately sold all of my trade goods in the backpack that looked like they were going for a decent price in the town I was in (Port South, I think?)

I used that money to go to a bar and hire a second squaddie before venturing very far into the wastes at all. Having a second squad member seems to grant you so much more forgiveness in terms of how bold you can be and not become an ugly smear on the sand.

I designated the second guy as my medic (make sure you have a first aid kit in his inventory, NOT the medical supplies, which are just trade goods), and would follow around friendly groups like the Holy Empire (wandering guys in red), the United Cities (blue/gray), or Imperial Lords (yellow). When they attacked some roving bandits, I would jump into the fight with my first squad member, and keep my second back to revive him if he got knocked out.

Once my first squaddie had some acceptable stats (15 or so in melee attack and melee defense), I would have the medic start helping in the fights, since my first guy was unlikely to get downed almost instantly in these fights. My first squaddie started pulling some medic duty, too, in case number 2 went down in a hurry.

I kept doing that for a while until I felt tough enough to venture out away from the protective aegis of these friendly groups, and started doing trade runs between the towns, adding squad members as I could without dipping too seriously into my trade overhead fund.

Once you have a few members who are slightly more threatening than a toddler armed with a swizzle stick, it gets exponentially easier to achieve whatever your goal may be, whether you're town building, trade running, bounty hunting, etc.

Also, something I didn't discover for a while, which may say something about me: Those training dummies you sometimes see in the big circular buildings in towns will let your squaddies train their melee attack stat up to level 5 if they interact with them with a weapon in hand.
