Movement to different towns.
I just purchased the game and even though it's Alpha, what potential! I'm sure I'll have many questions in the future but for now, how does one move his characters from one settlement to the next? Using the map I think I have tried everything. Thanks.
Simple, you walk to there, right clicking, you just need to guide yourself with the map, find the right direction for yourself, or try to wander and look when you close to one and change then direction, as for now there is no compass.

There is no fast travel or long distance waypoint setting just yet, I imagine something along these lines will be added in the future, but for the time being travelling from town to town must be done manually.
Clawdis is right, Remember this game is still in the alpha, features like fast travel are expected to be missing. This will be definitely be implemented along in the future because it takes a while to travel from town to town. For now it has to be done manually.Clawdius Talonious wrote:There is no fast travel or long distance waypoint setting just yet, I imagine something along these lines will be added in the future, but for the time being travelling from town to town must be done manually.

Pack animals will be available, but mounts have not been confirmed. While an immediate fast travel akin to what you see in many games will not be coming to Kenshi, there will likely be a system for setting waypoints in distant towns. Eventually I imagine you'll be able to configure your own trading caravans with a trade route and they'll go about their business largely automated. All of that of course comes after we get the ability to control multiple squads.
Oh, thought mounts had ben confirmed to not be present.
Despite the fast travel feature i ma still ues the old regular walk, rather do so and explore or see what s on the path, never know what you gona find.

despite also reading a post that i thought confirmed no mounts for sure, perhaps clawdius is just trying to leave it as a possibility. Save any hastles in the future if chris changes his mind.hbrown wrote:Oh, thought mounts had ben confirmed to not be present.

"On top of that, in a later release there will be a fast travel option on the world map (similar to the map screen in the original fallout games)."
I found this in the Game Design page. http://www.lofigames.com/index.php?opti ... &Itemid=55
So i was just wondering. Is fast travel a no or still planed to be in the game?

Well it's really up to Chris what he plans to implement, I hadn't read that update in 2011, but it was quite awhile ago and hasn't been implemented and isn't in the rough order of planned updates, so if there is something of that nature it isn't coming any time soon. Fast travel was once something Chris had planned, but at one point a perk system similar to Fallout was something he had planned, in the end it is his creation and malleable to what he sees fit. Personally I'm not sure how exactly a fast travel system would work, would it elapse a set amount of time so that you could hop from town to town to town occasionally having random encounters while trading? If so, what would happen to the members of your party at your outpost? Would you be able to effectively rush research by fast travelling repeatedly? How would fast travel work with regards to extremely heavy loads, could you get a group to 100 strength by loading everyone down with water in a large traders backpack and fast travelling from one end of the map to the other?
To me it seems the game could use a dynamic economy, the ability to create and automate trading parties of your own, and control of additional squads before any fast travel system. In the end I'm sure whatever Chris does in that regard will be entertaining, but zipping around from location to location by clicking on the map comes with a great many potential issues and any one of which could have caused it to be scrapped. In the end, we'll see what is coming when it is announced as a feature in an upcoming release. I'm not saying definitively mounts or fast travel or rocket powered roller skates won't be coming to the game, although I think we can fairly safely rule out the last of those.

Fast travel might be a good thing when with small parties, but when you think the game is planned to have a high load of people t becomes problematic, mostly as points you said there, like you moving simply half the squad, the other half, and the rest of the world will simply freeze?Clawdius Talonious wrote:To me it seems the game could use a dynamic economy, the ability to create and automate trading parties of your own, and control of additional squads before any fast travel system. I guess would be (i think is what you said, but not sure so i ma say how i think xD), a "fast forward", but instead use the X4 time, do a imidiate skip, from X time depending on the place you wanted to travel too. Tho like i said in before, i won t use fast travel here, as i will prefer to enconter what comes i my way, as seems on of the most interesting things in the game for me, you never knwo what s to come, it might had come a rare thing and you simply lost because you skipped, in this case also because of multiple people in a squad, which can be move differently, makes me not use it (due to problems said before).
Not against it, just don t see it really fit when you think thoes details, good for lonely wolfs maybe, but not for really for squads.
And i actually never played any Fallout (might do in the future if i get the chance for it), so i not sure how worked there, nothing of it.

Ya i can see your point. i never played fallout either so i don't know the fast travel system.Clawdius Talonious wrote: Would you be able to effectively rush research by fast travelling repeatedly? A fast travel system that i think would probably be the only thing that works due to all this, is the Far cry 3 fast travel system. Its instant (so your teleporting not traveling) and you can only fast travel to cities of un-hostile factions you have already been to. To prevent landing/teleporting inside an AI, Farcry3 had it so you always spwned inside a building only you could enter. This made me think.
The fast travel feature could be a teleportation building that is done with robotics and only accesable by the same faction with more than 2 bases and very high research. This could be both a means of transport and defense, making attacking AI factions with more than 1 base obviously more difficult and worth the factions power.

Well, for those that never played Fallout 1/2 the world map would pop up and you could see your party move quickly over large distances between locations, but this was more a limitation than anything and you couldn't manually cross the vast distances even if you had wanted to. A better comparison would be Arcanum, where you could walk the entire distance from place to place, or fast travel. There was a chance that random encounters would pop up, and with the right skills you could avoid them if you desired. So that form of fast travel isn't the instant popping from place to place that newer games opt for.
