No progress

One month without any updates.
The main bug in the HAVOC library isn't fixed yet (perhaps some lessons in 3rd party vendor management is in place?)

terrain still buggy, memory leaks.
how long can you keep saying its Beta?.
it looks more like a money scheme, as the updates are less frequent, major bugs don't get solved, content is pretty much the same as 2 years ago.

And funny to read moderators say that fixing one bug can cause new bugs. How can that be if you work with test methods that prevent such issues occur? owww oops of course, there isn't a method....

Potential nice game setting, but turned into a money machine for Lo-Fi Games.

1 month with no progress.
1 month with no apparent progress aka no actual data to upload and disseminate to players.
this does not mean there is no progress. Unlike other indie companies they don't have updates every week ( Keen Software a prime example )
Indie companies can progress at their own rates, some rates are good and some are non exitant. Kenshi though updates at times can be long they do come and usually with alot of content.

terrain and memory Leaks, this is known and will continue to be a piece of work for some time to come within the limitations of the 32 bit programing it entails. Terrain aka a larger map will not be out until when the game nears or enters beta stage.

Kenshi is in Alpha stage of development, not beta.

you ever program a game before.??
or even program anything?? adding a line of code can easily break another line of code. you then have to hunt down the reason why the new line broke a old line and then fix it, and then only to have a certain type of machine setup break what you fixed. which requires more coding to fix what you thought you had fixed already. and this can snowball with each type of system known.

I am not a ( current ) coder but i definitely know what coding can be like and the difficulties entailed in doing it in today's software technology.

as for money machine, not sure where you going with that. though i would suspect you think Lo-Fi games is some type of scam or other.

I'm only answering this so others can see. otherwise i would have deleted it as a tolling post, which it is since you obviously haven't read any of the announcement posts, or even seen any of the topics posted on the steam forums.

0.73.0 update progress just released on main page... there is your progress. I have done my fair share of complex programming and i can confirm that coding is a cruel mistress, you give and she takes away!

I still have nightmares about those excel spreadsheets.....

Game development is retarded slow, no defending that.

But it is progressing. For us old timers on the forum the game is vastly different to what it used to be. This is the joy of an over-ambitious game coupled with a small dev team.

Give it time and only buy in if you enjoy the game as it currently is. If you buy in now but expecting the future then you will only be disappointed.

Be patient.

Oh look another one that has no clue how game development works and should probably never buy into early-access again as he can't refrain from bitching eventhough he clearly isn't well informed.

move along..

Well yes, programmed, and have people program for me as well. you just need to have a system and method, and work organized. your reply seems to confirm my thoughts of not having that :).

Money scheme as to have the game sold in such shape to roll in the cash without ever finishing it, or intend to spend the cash in reasonable way to develop it to a finished product.
Hence the slow rate. You say its alpha, on the site its says Beta download. still its freaking slow.
And for the update...... its marked APRIL... not sure its 2015 or 16.

and to remove my post, is to remove an opinion, and expressions about the game development. if you start removing negative comments (of course in good language), then you are at best nothing more then a propaganda forum. so give room for critics as well.
fact is , development is slow, and development is hugely depended on 3rd party support. in my view a cocktail for disaster.
Havoc still has not solved the issue, and there is no ETA on it.
As such your at the mercy of a third party.

another soul who didn't look at the calendar from release date until now, and put that off to normal game dev time.....

but then, some people like half finished products, and wait for it until hell freezes over with firm believe " it really is going to happen this year!!"
of course your free to have the patience as you have, admirable as it is, there are people who are not so happy after so long a wait.

Seems like you had your expectations way too high then. for a large part of the games life it's had a very small dev team and even now they're no more than 6 i believe? So i don't know what you were expecting.

Complaining about it isn't going to make it go any faster. It'll be done when it's done, if you cant stand waiting take a long break from the game and come back in like a year.

It all boils down to faith.... no one knows what the future holds, but we must have faith in Chris and the team to pull this adventurous project off. I believe they can and will patiently wait, with only a smidgen of flaming whilst i do.

To help us keep the faith Sam has released a live web cam of him working on the pathfinding for Kenshi.

that's what they say every year now....

that's the problem.
and I speak up, because I really do think that it has become a money thing, they invest the money into the next game and so on. many examples to be found in alpha games.
claim its alpha and you get away with everything, no rights, no claims, nothing, just your money please, and after that, the message, ...wait come back later, its alpha.

and I think this is the same deal, they sell the game, and no progress has been stepped up, hence the money flowing in isn't been put to more development and finishing the game soon.
it is in the same pace as it was before.

Is this a 'Developer is lazy' comment?

I love how you have joined yesterday and made 8 posts all negative. I have made it my mission of the day to seek out your posts and quote them for the sole reason of entertaining myself with the noobie forumite.

This has happened on some alpha early access games, but not all. Lofi does not have any other projects in the pipeline as far as i am aware so accusing them of doing this is a little harsh.

They might however, in which case we will all bow down to your foresight and you will make millions with your new fortune cookie business. But you could be wrong and then we will all be happily playing Kenshi so everyone wins!

No not a lazy developer,
as I stated, I have 2 main issues
1 the team uses 3rd party software that has issues, and solving it depends on the 3rd party willingness and effort. Hence the control over the bug fixing is not within Lo Fi alone.
It is a serious thing for any developer. It is a fact, I just state it to express my concern.

2 the development is slow, real slow. just the "its Alpha" is not valid after a period of time, and development of this game is in line with creating the pyramids timetable. as there are many alpha projects used by developers to cash in, and then drop it, or stop progress and use the cash to start a new project or just cash in, as it is Alpha the buyer has nothing to do against it.

I joined the forum, to express my thoughts on it
hence my comments. Negative for some peoples feelings, but I just state facts.

-Development is slow, and not picking up speed with sales continuing to grow.
-3rd party suppliers need to solve bugs, hence no control on Lo Fi side on that.

these are facts, I not invent these to make a point.

I been playing Kenshi for a long time now, and you cannot keep people in the dark for over 3 years and go with the Alpha dev excuse anymore.

I be happy to be wrong on the money thing, and receive a finished product soon.
surprise me :)

Havok products proved to be successful. Why shouldn't they use them then?
It seems like bad luck that of all devs Lofigames found a bug. I also think Lofigames isn't their top priority at all because it is such a small team, so it takes way longer than it might have to be.

Yes, development is a bit slow, I can't deny that. But don't you call this game a scam.. until late 2013 Chris developed the game alone. He would never drop development and promised that the game will get finished, even if the money runs out. I can also understand the slow development a bit: they are working on several features at the same time, so it takes longer to finish one and release an update. On the other side it's not like the whole team consists of programmers. There's our mighty Chris, Sam and Maykol. All 3 of them are working on different parts of the game like pathfinding/slavery/weather system. Additionally there are the 2 O's, Olly and Otto, who are both 3D artists. Last but no least there is Natalie, "Master of Coin". It may doesn't completely justify the speeed of development, but at least for me it's mostly comprehensible.

Lol, Do you just assume you know how everything works before actually learning? .

It's extremely obvious you havent touched a line of code in your life. You haven't wrote any scripts, i doubt you've even used a markup language. Why do you think you have the authority or credability to declare you know one iota about any development process in general. Do you even know how to define bug?

I agree, he is giving it too much hate while not even attempting to do it himself. Chris and the team are working their hardest to get this done. but no one person works 24/7. and we should expect the same from a developer. it takes time to get things done. especially if you are coding all new things together. i think ironfist should be a bit more grateful of what is there instead of complaining about what is not there or it not being there fast enough. iron needs to understand the struggle before you start throwing false information around.

Fuck that too. This is a product after all, nobody should demand someone else be "grateful" and just take what they get. The last thing we need is a fanboy squad to start attacking real suggestions or feedback just to defend the almighty beard of chris, his beard can defend itself im sure.

But at the same time, you can't make unrealistic demands or even demand anything in the first place, You can ask for a feature or make a suggestion with a post that uses reasoning and examples, you should calmly explain your thought process so that someone can follow that train of thought and actually consider how it might be implemented or interpreted.

Developers are people just like everyone else and they'll have even more suggestions and ideas for a game they're working on than people can put into a suggestion forum. I guarantee with a community as small as kenshi's, people in the dev team have brainstormed 99% of the stuff in the suggestions forum before. Im not saying the forum is useless, it serves as a good measure of "demand" but more importantly, occasionally you do get that well thought out idea that elegantly solves many problems and integrates with the game well without the BS, and that's just great.

You are very wrong in all of your statements
and if you read the content of my statement, it is clear i refer to a way of working to prevent removing one bug with another.
there are programming standards and methods, especially in dynamic programming.

Second, the way you respond with language and form is way out of line
i thought we had rules on communicating on the forum

5:Remain respectful of other users, moderators and administrators at all times
6: No excessive swearing or swearing at other members (Other than that, its all good!)

i think that is more important, and keeping to content, then to just ramble and insult.

But then, it seems to be allowed towards critics of the development.

Haters will be haters i guess
:D
