Using the editor

How do I use the editor without screwing up my game?

I've got the weirdest thing in my current game. I started a new game, mostly because I was struggling with the bugs I encountered when building a town (especially after importing into a new game - and yes, I knew that was going to be buggy).

The weird thing is that my beginning town still exists in the new game. Even when I import a saved game and indicate that buildings are not to be imported, they still are. They're very buggy, but they're there. So how do I get rid of them, permanently?

I assume that the editor will do that, but I'm really worried about causing worse problems for myself. In fact, just opening the editor and looking at it, without actually doing anything, might have screwed up my first game.

Is there a way to get the old map back, while keeping my characters and their gear? This isn't a big deal, since I can always find a different place to settle, but I still like that initial location I found.

delete gamedata.base then revalidate your game files
if the town is not removed then delete the data folder then revalidate your game files.

and right now, there is no way to safely use the ingame editor.

default steam installation directory
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Kenshi\data

The real problem with the in-game editor is that it doesn't edit your save game, it edits the actual map data. So when you try to use it, it can cause player created towns to get stuck on the map in every game, or worse... (Cannibals Took Over My Base).

So I have to highly recommend that you avoid the using the editor, unless making your town persistent across all games (and probably not owned by you) is your goal. There is the "forgotten construction kit", in the game's install directory, that can be used for modifying the game though.
