Setting up shop

I have tried to set up shops in towns and in my forts.
I never get any traders.
What types of items will traders buy?
And what are the best areas to set up shops?

trade goods only. like bread and steel bars and chain mail sheets, ect. you can easily tell which are trade goods because the price changes between towns and it shows when you hover your mouse over them.

no weapons or armors

Set your town to public. set house to public. and counter to public.
there really are no good trade areas. the traders are still messed up due to the pathing engine.
you can make more money faster right now if you sell it yourself.

Thanks I was trying to use it to sell off the junk that the bandits leave me on their raids.
I'll try and stock it with some better trade goods.

the traders wont buy that stuff.
only trade goods sell.

Sooooo filled my shop with trade goods cost me tons of cats to collect from other towns. Robot parts, medical supplies, tools, ect... Then when I loaded the game this morning all my stuff was gone and just the stuff that auto shows up there was left.

I was using a large shop counter. Is there a thief in my squad or what?

Also is there a way to attract traders? I built my town where I saw 3 traders passing by and figured it would be a good location. but since then not one has stopped.

the disappearing inventory would be a bug.

as for attracting traders. their is no way to do that, they come on their own.
