Awesome site effect. And to be completely fair, we are the reason that many of the countries we are at war with censor their users so heavily. We essentially install these evil dictators oppressing everyone and we only go in and give a shit when those dictators turn on us and attempt to stop the petrodollar. This is what happened to hussain and gaddafi, yes they were evil but they were evil and doing evil things long before we gave a shit.

The petrodollar is the concept that US currency is backed by oil due to ours being the exclusive trade currency the middle east takes for oil. By changing this standard from dollars to gold (the denar), the middle east would cripple our economy and what gives our currency its value.

Obviously its a very complex issue and anyone can do their own research on this simply by trawling google.

You live in the south, I am sure everyone has guns down there. :)

Ge together and go and literally 'Occupy' wallstreet. Your deaths might be like that crazy monk years ago who set himself on fire to protest human rights abuses. I don't think that anything will stop it though. Your country has some serious problems, and they are not the problems that everyone thinks they are.

The US government has decided that it does not need to actually pass sopa to use its provisions. Megaupload has been shut down, people have been arrested, and everyones data is gone.

from my congresswoman

"The Senate version of the bill had been scheduled for a vote next week. However, today, Senate leadership announced the vote has been canceled due to widespread opposition to the bill. In the House, SOPA had been under consideration by the House Judiciary Committee, and was in the process of being amended and changed. However, immediately after the Senate canceled the vote on the bill, Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith announced that his committee will stop considering this bill entirely and will go back to the drawing board to try and reach broader consensus on this issue in order to address constituent concerns. "

It got too much attention. They'll sneak something similar in at a later date when everything has quieted down. Censorship and restrictions is of great interest to far too many powerful people, unfortunately.

This is the "flower power" period of the internet, enjoy it while it lasts.

Hi all !

Not just Americas problem.

In fact I would think that the rest of us with governments that so blindly do and obey whatever the American government tells them to do should be very worried .

New Zealand,a country that has for a long time stood it's ground against US influence in the area,so willingly caving in to US laws for the benefit of the film industry dosn't bode well for any of us.

Effectively bills such as these, put US law into other countries loungerooms witht he consent of our own governments and give them the right to order our law enforcement to comply or step out of the way.

There's been a big shift of wealth, resources and military assets in the last 30 years, which has quickened at an alarming rate.

In australia alone,we have just recently had a complete shift of defence from civilian infrastructure and lives to resource and indusrty and then accept over two thousand more US troops onto our shores.

We have totally ignored conflict and abuses in our own backyard to warmonger around the world on the American governments behalf since WW2 and I'm pretty confident that Australians want it stopped.

Right now and into the foreseeable future Australia is just a vassal country lead by a puppet government, which cannot be replaced by anything that offers one iota of difference.

Meh I ranted and raved lol.

I suppose the moral of the story here is,the bigger an empire gets, the harder it will fall and most usually from within itself.

Not considering the SOPA and PIPA issues.

I don't think it's that bad that the usa has some influence in other countries. I mean if it wasn't the americans, it would be the russians or the chinese. And considering that, I prefer usa to the others.

Now I'm not saying to blindly follow orders around and I'm no expert in the field so I don't know how bad it is in other countries, it's just my own opinion on that :bowing: .

I am from Chicago and know corruption well. If we allow private companies to leverage monitary gain over the freedom of infomation we will be in deep $#!^. A companie's primary focus is monitary gain, service for a price! So does anyone remember the results of private companies being allowed to "contact" to various government military infastructures? EX ops (formerly Black Water) and now reflex response (AE). Just think of the results! On the plus side, the United States has developed a way to "tunnel through" a country's internet block via portable suitcase device. :x (We will one day need our own created device to tunnel through our own internet block. WTF! :x )

I vote net neutrality.

While SOPA/PIPA is bad there's something even worse called ACTA

I'm no good at explaining so here are some links:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Count ... _Agreement

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8Xg_C2YmG0

Though from what I understand is it will allow the government to monitor all of your access on the internet, even telling your friend a recipe from a cooking class or food book will will allow them to sue/send you to jail. Unfortunately I don't know where a petition is

Hi all !
WARNING Rant ahead =/

/RANT

Russia and china are the least of Australias worries at present and near future,But it is that American prescence/influence that puts us in danger at all with these two countries.

Without mentioning names,Australia has a huge very aggressive and violent expanding neighbor right at our doorsteps (their elite troops of which Australia trained I might add),which now buys it's arms from our allies the Americans, who in turn deny Australia the best in military technology,in particular air superiority.

If Australia was to be attacked tomorrow,we could not defend this huge country of only 22 million people,of which the majority live on the coastline.Check out a map of OZ folks and see exactly why we can't support the *BIG AUSTRALIA* dream our politicians want. The civilians have been disarmed (except for criminal elements) so stand little chance of retaliating as the japanese concluded we would in WW2.

The above mentioned neighbor would suffer little in the way of logisitics and certainly not man power and only need call on religious beliefs to bolster most of its populations support and/or participation as it has shown time and time again.

If this country did attack I dare say America would do little but divy up the spoils between said country, just as Australia did with East Timor and currently with papua.American troops are not here for Australian interests period.

Russia and China ? Not by a long shot.

No longer *Fortress Australia*.

As an aside Chris do you think we could have a rants and raves section or just a general off topic section,so we can keep it cleaner for the games sake ?

what i meant to say was that if the americans didn't win ww2, we'd all have a small red book, drink vodka and wouldn't know a damn thing about free internet
Maybe not the best example but if you look at korea: the north is russian and the south is american influence and nobody here would go to the north

I'm not sure a rant forum would do us any good ;) maybe a bees forum where we can also rant and dispute at will (and then lessen the mood with bees jokes)
