Party Opening Gate

I am sure most people are aware of or have experienced the situation when some or all of your party just wont leave that damn gate locked. Well I noticed some interesting behaviour associated with this bug and "Operating Machine - Rum Still"

A tale of testing. So started like any other time...

Once upon a time one of my party seemed to have an insatiable attraction to my gate.

Image

Constantly opening it every time I closed it.

I thought, Maybe if I click off all of his behavioural modifiers (He had 3 at the time) would he calm down a little and leave the gate alone.

The 3 Jobs he had assigned were:
Operating Machine: Rum Still
Operating Machine: Small Farm
Operating Machine: Well

Naturally I tried removing these in order.
His Top priority task first i.e. "Operating Machine: Rum Still"

Upon removing this from his Job List. He forgot all about his infatuation with the gate and decided to get back to more productive things, such as ploughing a field for the betterment of his people.

I played around with those 3 Jobs putting them in different orders, by themselves and finally cleared all jobs just to make sure it was not that particular character.

And throughout all of this the bug remained consistent.

Image

When the "Operating Machine: Rum Still" job had priority (was top of the jobs list with any combination of others underneath) he would always make sure that gate was a beautiful "Welcome Home Lads!" to every single roaming bandit crew that walked by.

And they all lived happily ever after, mostly.

The End.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, I hope it has been informative.

*UPDATE*

OK after playing around with it some more today I noticed that this behaviour (in this instance) is associated with a "Rum Barrels" Storage object.

Any character using any "Rum Barrels" would run to unlock the gate then return to the barrel.

At that time I had 1 barrel with 20 rum stored in it and another barrel which was empty.

I built another Rum Barrel outdoors (my previous 2 were indoors) and this barrel exhibited no such behaviour.

So in order to test wither the bug was limited to the 2 barrels indoors in my "House" building or if it was a global "Any Rum Barrel Indoors" would cause this gate opening behaviour I build rum barrels in a small shack and saloon respectively.

In both cases when ever it came time for my engineer to build these barrels, instead of "Adding Materials" after right clicking the character would adopt the unlock gate behaviour.

However I guessed that this has something to do with being inside a self made town i.e. completely enclosed by walls.

To test this theory I built a small shack outside my compound with a rum barrel inside.

This barrel did not cause character to open gate spam.

So from all of this I have narrowed it down to:

For my specific save game instance: Any character interacting (building or looting) with Rum Barrels (the storage object) built indoors (inside a shack, house, saloon) within the confines of a self built town (an area of land enclosed by walls with a gate) will unlock a gate when it is closed.

Advice: If your characters just wont leave your gate locked and you happen to have Rum Barrels indoors move them outside and see if this helps.

Coming Soon:
I will start a fresh game and see if this behaviour is persistent.

Hi,

I have similar problem - guy, who locks the gate, cannot move or can, but he immediately unlocks the gate. Same with other chars. If gate is closed, I can't order anything, because wherever I click, this char runs to the gate and opens it. Before they do it, they don't react to any order. Just like "Buuuut moooom, I have to this!" :C

Don't know if it was reported yet.

See, I have this problem as well, but for me it's that whenever I close a gate with a party member, they will open it again before they move anywhere else.

I've realised that this error occures when there's a construction in progress (not finished building!) near gate. Every time when I placed construction in described place EVERY char could not do anything untill the gate was opened : )

EDIT: Same problem with Stone Processor. No idea why, cause was working great till now. Guys just run to the unconstructed things (this time storages) and "BUILD BUILD BUILD! F**K YEAH I'M AN ENGINEER" : D

I'm having this problem too, but even after taking into consideration all the possible causes mentioned on here I still haven't been able to solve the problem. For me it's the guys running my stone processor.

Off topic I'm also having trouble with my characters not following my orders when they pull aggro off a bandit. I can't make them stop chasing them no matter what I do, if I click somewhere for them to run they get there then immediately go back to running after the bandit. If I uncheck "Chase" they keep going, non-combat same thing. It's driving me insane. I keep having to reload my save file because my engineers and traders keep getting my entire party killed.

Check if you don't have any jobs assigned. If you SHIFT + LMB char gets assigned a job(s) and he will do it no matter what. But in that case you should be able to move him where you please, he will listen to orders, than get to working again.

Were you responding to me? In case you were, I made sure to ex out of any jobs my guys had assigned, when they started acting up that was the first thing I tried but they still continued to ignore what I was trying to get them to do. I had to end up making a new game because they kept getting everyone killed.

I actually found somewhat of a workaround, when they start ignoring move commands I just pause the game, highlight them and make them follow another character. This is, so far, has been the only workaround that I got to work.

Well I have this problem too, but it's a bit more different. Before I build anything else I build a wall around a fixed space with a gate. Once all the walls and the gate has been built, I try to start building inside the gate. I start with a shack always and every time (did some imports) my character(s) run to the gate open it and then run back to the job. Sometimes the problem "fixes" itself after all the assigned building are finished, but eventually it will end up going back to square one. If I dismantle the gate the characters get stuck in place after the gate disappears. not sure if the gate dismantle problem exists for you guys.
