Dogs Can't Be Picked Up.

As you can see in the image below when I click on the dog to try and pick it up and throw it in the furnace there is no option. I tried clicking 'put down' and it didn't work. (Edit: just went back and looked at the dock. It is "Unconscious" not dead. I am guessing this is one reason why I can't pick it up.
