Cannot run game. Crashes
Game crashes every time I try to play. Doesn't matter if I am trying to load a game, continue or start a new game. I get a crash message telling me to report it here, then the game freezes on a black screen until I end it through task manager.

you can tell because they downloaded the files.
give them time to figure out why it happens.

Try going to the local save files and deleting one of your saves, an auto or a quicksave is fine. If you get a message about user permissions then you've got the same issue I have.
I've been logging into my machine using a local account, not an MS account to allow for file permissions. I still get an issue every time I restart my machine where I have to manually delete the quick and auto saves and create a new savegame each day for the game to run.

Couldn't you just change the owner of the file folder (and all subdirectories/files in it too) since it sounds like you're the admin on your PC? Then ensure you allow R/W permissions on those files/folders?Hangfire wrote:Try going to the local save files and deleting one of your saves, an auto or a quicksave is fine. Yep, tried that. The new file settings made no difference and my local admin account was already the file owner, but for some reason didn't have permission to delete the (old) saves.Rumahu wrote: Couldn't you just change the owner of the file folder (and all subdirectories/files in it too) since it sounds like you're the admin on your PC? Haven't worked every possibility through methodically yet, but it seems that I can get nothing to load when the 'Current' file is in the save folder, even between sessions on the same day.

if you have crashdumps from newest versions please upload them.
and some bugs,, take a while to identify then fix. patience is something that's needed. and wait for the Devs to find the issue and fix it. and since there has been no word about it, that means they still looking for the issue that's causing your problems
so please upload more crashdumps from each version that comes out.
hopefully they will gather enough information to finally figure out your issue.

I have the same problem, but have been able to find a workaround. After some googling and troubleshooting it turned out to be related to my intel igpu (HD 520), and the process igfxEM.exe. For some reason it gets permission for some of my files in the Steam folder (including saves), blocking every other user from accessing these files. From what I can see on other forums, this has been an issue with several other games on Steam.Eluria88 wrote:This is still happening... It's been a MONTH. I'd say I've given it ample time.
I completely reinstalled the game and it worked for 1 hour then started doing it again.
I'm really surprised there isn't a fix for this yet.
My workaround is to revert the igpu driver and then update the driver again every time I want to play Kenshi. It takes about 30 seconds. For some reason this fixes the problem even though the driver is exactly the same. Unfortunately I have to do this every time my PC is restarted. I have no idea why or how this is happening.
This works well as a temporary fix for me, and it may or may not be a suitable workaround for you and others. Hoping there will be a more permanent fix soon.
Computer is running Windows 10 64bit, Intel Corei7-7700HQ 2.80GHz CPU, 16GB RAM
I really dont think it's an issue with my computer hardware being outdated or too old. A decently new machine. All the drivers are updated.
Ran in safe mode and deleted a folder in the downloads area that I couldn't delete before, now it appears to be downloading Kenshi. I would REALLY rather not have to uninstall and reinstall Kenshi anytime I want to play it. There has to be a better way? I still don't even know if it's going to work. But last time I got it to work it had to be reinstalled. Am I missing something?

This is a windows issue, the easiest way to fix it is to make sure the game is not installed in the C:\program files (x86)\ folder. You could get steam to install your games to a different location, or you can just move the whole \kenshi\ folder somewhere else like C:\games\kenshi
I will also add, that the only way I've been able to get it to even generate a crash dump is by putting it in program files. If I move it, it just flat out wont launch at all. Screen goes black for 30 seconds or so then it returns me to my desktop.
I've never had a game so difficult to even run.

as long as its not in c:\programfiles then it should be ok. It's possible there is a second issue preventing you from running it. If you can't get a crashdump file, send me the kenshi.log instead
I decided to uninstall steam and reinstall it outside of Program FIles, instead I put it in a new games folder directly in the C:\ drive.
new location is: c:\games\steam\steamapps\common\kenshi
It ran perfectly fine twice, now it's crashing again.
I cannot load a game, continue my game or start a new game without crashing. Same as before.
