I started a game with the focus of trying to build a complete escaped slave squad. I set out to the 'Stone Camp' between Sho-Battai and Stoat started unlocking the shackles from only the ones out mining, I managed to escape with 6 outside of the gates- but the weird thing is the guards didn't become aggressive to ME because they didn't see me unlocking the shackles- however the large group of escaping slaves (probably like 12 before we got out the gates) were clearly following me. So only the slaves were being attacked for escaping. One of my slaves got captured after he decided to join my squad.

Later I come back for a second 'recruitment run' and to free my squad-mate. This time i mess around with freeing the caged slaves(including my squad-member slave). I noticed that unlocking only the cages of the slaves allowed them to be standing in the cage without the guards noticing the unlocked cage. So i unlocked ALL the slaves cages only; in prep for a mass escape.

For some reason I unlocked the cage of my party member and then talked to the slave master and I saw that my party member that was captured and in the unlocked cage with shackles locked was on the for sale option. I was able to repeat sell my squad-member because he was like 'freed but not freed'... something like 4000 per sale and i was able to do this 5 or 10 times before I felt like a cheaty mc cheater so i stopped it.

when I finally DID unlock my slave squad-members' shackles the guards instantly considered him 'ex-slave' so we weren't attacked for freeing him at all- I think because I've previously freed him before or something idk but he was JUST recaptured AND i sold him to them like 10x- so he was most definetly a captured slave.

So i escaped this time with like 10 slaves but all of them decided NOT to join me (because they were not original slaves but captured bandits and whatnot) -ungrateful bastards.

I noticed the slavers reputation towards me was heavily increased for selling my slave member so many times that, i had a positive rep of around 75 after it was all done- even though i freed the person I sold and freed all of their slaves 2x at this point. essentially stealing money and all of their slaves twice made them like me ALOT.

P.S. I wish you could change the name of the original slaves when u get them as members, right now I have 2 members that have the name "SLAVE" (the other 4 didn't make the journey across the desert or decided not to join) , i'm gonna try to change the name at the surgeon just haven't gotten around to it.

I think the likely hood of bandit slaves to join is too low or maybe i was really unlucky.

Would be cool to be able to have slave labor at your base, where they don't join your squad and try to escape and stuff, and/or to be able to brainwash or interrogate prisoners and be able to reuse shackles. Right now I just capture strong people and beat them up for training, seems like the only practical use for cages right now.

What I did just for fun was stealth KO a working slave in the stone camp and picked him up and sold him back to the slave trader for 400cats. After that he takes the slave and puts him in the cage closest to him (next to the beds). Then I get between the indoor wall and the beds where the guards cant see me. From there I can pick lock the cage and pick up the slave again. Wait until committing crime is gone. Then I go back to the slaver and resell him for another 400cats and so the cycle continues. I think u shouldn't be able to sell someone with the status "Slave" already. Maybe after him being an ex-slave.

Just to add to this thread:
If the slaver already has someone in their arms they will obviously not take whoever you sell to them.

A fight occured in town and I started selling off the bandits to the slaver. After selling the first guy I quickly picked up a second and talked to the slaver again, which caused him to stand there holding the first and allow me to constantly sell for 400 cats over and over despite the second guy I held being fitted with chains.

Add to the add:
him staying around too much time carrying a slave, might be caused by the (slaver's bosses' reachable) cages being full, well and obviously a higher priority task, a quick workaround is to set his dialog inherent to buying a carrying slave (whatcha got there...) only available if T_ME (Slaver Boss) DC_CARRYING_SOMEONE_TO_ENSLAVE == 0, the worst that could happen is he will be stuck that way till the morning, when slaves are put to work. A better solution is he not accepting slaves if cages are full or something else is happening (not possible atm, no check for cages), while still retaining this workaround to make sure you can't run at him while he's carrying a slave and try to sell another.
For some reason, sometimes that dialog is not available even if he's carrying nothing. Still trying to figure out.

Add to the add to the add:
FCS doesn's see you are modifying a dialong within a dialog package, you have to open and edit that specific dialog for changes to take effect, dunno if known/intended, not intuitive tho.
