It seems in recent version the gate guards have obtained a fanatic obsession with with repair every ruined building in their towns. Running down to the local shops and taking literally anything they can use to repair the buildings. I'd guess it was an attempt to make gate guard repair their own gate if damaged?
Been trying to track down the cause in the AI packages, and I've come to the conclusion it's the Gate guard -no turrets(52279-rebirth.mod) AI Package. Even if all the AI goals inside it are removed, it still happens. But the moment you remove the empty package, it stops.
[0.98.46]Gate Guards Repairing Entire Town
Possibly a mod adding a repair task to the package?
Shouldn't have been. Was running near vanilla, with only my own mods on for testing purposes. I'm fairly certain I never touched it in any of them, as I avoid messing with AI as much as possible, and use duplicates rather than edit vanilla ones.
i'll have to turn all mods off and test again when I get a chance, my computer has been acting up lately and I can't play many games, including Kenshi.

Sure it isn't that gate closing mod? Where they close the gates at night? Because they added gate repairing to guards too.
I'm on pure vanilla. Version 0.98.47 though...
I've never seen town guards do anything other than guard.
Gates in some of the smaller settlements, like slaver hunters, are closed the first time I visit them after a fresh import. But after the first visit, it stays open...
Weird bug you got there... I hope it's because of one of your mods, otherwise it really is weird...

Oh, that may very well have been it. I subbed to it recently, and I might have missed it in the mod list when going in to test my mod since new mods end up way down in the list. Whoops.
