Storage boxes only allowing weapons

The title says it all. I created a storage chest first thing after building a large house. I stashed a few extra long swords I kept on my person in the chest and ran off to take, I mean buy, more materials 
Came back and just so happened to have a couple extra shopkeeper's bags on me only to find nothing but weapons wanted to be in the chest. The response I get is nothing. The non-weapon item just returns to my inventory.
Weapon stands work for me. All weapons seem to load in fine.
The armor stands are basically barrels graphically and offer no interaction whatsoever.
All of this was on a new game with old squad.
