Game will not start. (GOG version)

Hello,

I recently purchased the game off GOG and had installed it via the GOG Galaxy client. When I try to play the game, the green 'Play' button grays out and after a few seconds, it turns green again.

I had performed a verify/repair on the game within the client numerous times, but without luck. I ended up performing a few re-installations of the game for good measure, but unfortunately have not had any success. Of note, after uninstalling the game to re-install, I checked to see if the Kenshi subfolder within the Games second of the GOG Galaxy path was removed in between prior to re-installation. It looks like it's been removed, as I see the folder disappear.

I've updated my DX runtimes, re-installed all vcredist files as recommended in other threads, the Discord channel suggestions and in chatting with GOG support but to no avail. :(

I'm running on 2700X system with 16gb of memory, on a GTX 1080 ti. I'm on Windows 10 x64. I'm pretty diligent in staying up to date on the latest patches and drivers, and I'm running on 417.22 for my videocard as well as being up to date on Windows patches.

I saw some other threads mention something along the lines of a crash log file of sorts- but I'm unable to find where this is within the game directory. I don't really notice anything in general that stands out as a dump file of any sort to provide. I did, however, try to manually start this game via the kenshi_GOG_x64.exe that exists in the directory. Upon trying to start it from there, I get the a dialog box indicating "Application Error", as shown in my attachment.

Can someone please advise / help? I've never had a problem starting any other games I have under GOG, but would very much like to try playing this game during my time off.

Thank you!

Hello,

I would love to upload those files if I could. Searching my hard drive doesn't yield any kind of matches with those log files after having tried to start the game on more than one occasion. I don't exactly get to any kind of loading or splash screen, it's an immediate dialog box that just pops up in the attachment that I uploaded. :(

Thanks very much for the link! I've tried 6 of those methods, save for the last one. Never heard of Dependency Walker, but just gave it a go right now. There's... quite a bit of red. I exported it to text file, though I'm not quite sure exactly how I would go about getting these specific files.

I'll see if I can run the whole gamut through Google to find out how to restore these. I've absolutely never had this kind of problem before with my other applications and games, so this is really puzzling for me.

On my system the kenshi.log and kenshi_info.log files are found in

C:/Program Files (x86)/GOG Galaxy/Games/Kenshi/

hope this helps.

Thanks for verifying for me! My game is also installed in the same default path. Unfortunately (I also have hidden files set to visible, just in case) those specific kenshi.log and kenshi_info.log files are not present after my attempts to start this game at all whatsoever. It outright fails on any start attempt and doesn't generate anything afterwards. :(

Not sure if this also helps figure out why I'm unable to start the game but I noticed that the 2015 iteration of the redists will get overwritten when applying the 2017 versions. I've tried starting it up without the 2017 redists installed, and with the 2015 redistributables installed (on top of the earlier iterations) but without luck.

also try moving it from your C:/Program Files (x86) folder to a new folder
you should stop installing items to the x86 folder completely.

Gave this a shot but unfortunately, still receiving the same application error dialog box every time I attempt to start this game. I'm really at a loss for words at trying to get this running on my machine. :(

Thanks for the suggestions, though.

That dependency walker file is really hard to read in txt format. The default dwi file would have been better.
That said, the problem is with MSVCP100.DLL which is from the visual c++ redistributable (june 2010). I think the version you have is not 64bit.
If it is refusing to install properly due to windows being stupid, try this: http://freewisdoms.com/download-dll-fil ... -by-games/

Just tried your link- looks like it resolved it! I got to a configuration menu and didn't get an application error message! Thank you very much! :D
