I believe that I am in a similar situation as well. I'm rather excited to begin playing kenshi, but it seems it may have to stay that way for a while as I have been trying to get kenshi to work for a day with no success. Whenever I start it up on steam, it says it failed to load the render system and that I probably need to download the June 2010 Direct X in the dependencies folder, which I have done several times to no avail. If anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

Update: I am a week in now and still nothing is working. I have uninstalled and reinstalled kenshi several times, installed multiple versions of direct X and still have the same problem. If anyone could solve this problem it would be much appreciated!
