[1.0.55 x64 Newland] Crash from launcher; game never loads; splash screen never appears

Playing game - save game - exit client. Some hours later attempt a new session. No changes in mods, load order, screen resolution, or anything else.

2 Monitor setup. Kenshi is set to use primary, always.

Click PLAY in steam
Click OK on Launcher
Primary screen briefly goes black, but secondary does not (which is unusual - when the game starts to run, prior to LoFi Games splash screen/logo, both screens would always normally go black)
After 2-3 seconds, back at desktop, launcher has closed, no sign of game running anywhere, Steam PLAY button is again green.

This occurred 5-6 times in a row.
