Generally when i begin playing Kenshi i will travel town to town destroying any bandit/ninja patrols on the way. Once they're all down i begin looting and immediately after i finish looting 'weapons/armor' i quick save using F5. I experience crashes regularly. All the crashes i experience are either during a zone loading phase (rare) or after a quick save using F5 (common).

Version:
0.29.7

Description:
I finished combat with some bandits and used the F5 quick save function immediately after looting.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Loot bandits
2. Use F5 (quick save) regularly

Consistency
It's common but doesn't occur every time i do it. Perhaps in a 4 - 6 hour play session it may only occur 6 - 8 times.

System specs/OS:
Intel 15-3570K @ 3.40GHz
ATI Radeon HD5770 PCIE 1GB
8.00GB G-Skill Ram
64-bit Windows 7

Severity:
minor

Workaround:
I haven't attempted to find a work around as the problem is only occasional and the save files are never damaged.

If at first you don't succeed then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Attached is another crash report for the same issue. The frequency of crashes has increased as I've ventured out towards the border towns (Fort Simion). So far, I'm half way between Brink and Fort Simion and I've crashed around 4 - 6 times.

I am also experiencing the crash immediately after quicksaving. Though it is much more frequent for me than once in 5-6 hours. It seems to happen more often away from the starting town. I'm at the outpost a quick run to the north of there, and have had it happen three times in 60 minutes. The only resolution I can find is killing the process.

Not using fancy shaders, have the game forced to one core. Latest crashdump is attached.

I noticed the more i move towards Fort Simion the more i would experience these crashes after quick saving. I also experienced more crashes on zone loading. You're absolutely correct, the further away from Brink you travel, the more you crash.

Think I may have found a temporary workaround for the F5 quicksave crashing. If someone else experiencing these lockups/crashes could try this in their game, we might narrow it down and allow others to keep playing.

Instead of simply hitting F5 and waiting for the inevitable crash, try the following:
  • Hit the Spacebar to pause the game
  • hit ESC to bring up the game menu
  • Manually click on the Quicksave (F5) button with the mouse
  • Wait for the Quicksave Successful message to fade
  • Hit ESC again to return to the game
  • Unpause the game
That has been working for me to get past the quicksave problems. I haven't had the loading crash in a little while, but that doesn't mean it's gone either.
