How to Report a Crash or Bug

How to report a crash:

-If you have trouble running the game

-Attach the crash dump
If Kenshi crashes, it will generate a file called crashDump.0.xx.x.zip, in the main install folder. Upload that file here on the forum when you make your report.

-Include kenshi version number in the Subject line if possible
its in the title bar when you play in windowed mode

NPC dialogue related bugs
We need to track down the exact dialog package, so try to include the character name, squad type, and a sample of exact text involved in the dialog (or a screenshot will do the job too)

-Search first
The majority of bug reports are repeats, there is an awful lot for me to trawl through so please search first and make sure you're not dragging up an old subject.

-If it's an unusual situation, attach your savegame.
If the bug is easy to describe or reproduce, don't bother, but if you have encountered an unusual situation it can help to upload your save. Eg, if your character is permanently stuck somewhere, or your characters consistently run to the wrong machine etc.
To do this, put the ENTIRE "quicksave" folder in a zip and attach it here on the forum. You should find it in C:/kenshi/save/quicksave.

-What happened
Tell me exactly what happened in as much detail as possible, and if you can, give me the exact steps needed to reproduce what happened. This is most important if you don't have a crash dump or savegame attached. The more info you give me, the more likely I can fix it.

If it's hard to describe, a screenshot can also help.

-Consitency
Does it happen everytime you do a certain thing, or is it random? Can you make it crash again?


-System specs
I only need this if its a technical error, eg graphical glitches, or you cannot run the game. Video card information is the most important, and you can also upload "ogre.log" from the game install folder to give me more information.


-Response
I don't usually respond to bug reports unless I need more information. There's just too many posts I like to get through all the bugs rapidly. But I am reading them and fixing them, and all your reports and crash dumps are a big help. Instead please imagine a reply to your post from me saying "Thanks for the help, I fixed it now maybe probably."

use dropbox or Googledrive or the in forum upload ( 10 megs max ) to post your bug reports.

please use search before posting bug reports.
its better to have 1 topic with 50 reports than 50 topics with 1 report
If your report disappeared is because a Admin moved it.
please do not repost posts
if you lost your post. go to your profile and search from there. it displays all your posts.

Other files that may be required are kenshi.txt , Kenshi._info.txt, and save.txt


Where to find the crashdump.zip file for Steam users. for non steam it will be in your Kenshi main folder.

Steam users crashdump.zip files can be found here
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Kenshi
It will say WinZip File in the type column, and it will have the winzip icon. and in case the game did not create a crashdump. zip up and upload the Kenshi.log in it's place.

to upload your crashdump.zip or savegame folder you'll see two tabs near the bottom of your post.
it will say "Options" and "Upload attachment"

Click the tab "Upload attachment"
click choose file, it will open up in whatever default directory you last used.
crashdump.zip file will be located in the folder described above. look for your most current report., click it. then click ok. it will then show in the choose file area the name of the file you're uploading, you can then add brief comments to it. once you're done with that. click "Add the file"


then when you're done editing your post. click Submit.
and its as easy as that.
