I spawned in Bark with Freedom Fighters. I had a small outpost going with bread production on the way, so I decided to send my leader and one other newbie to Heft to get some bounty on a Dust Bandit Boss I've been lugging around for the past while (there was no Chief in the Bark Police Station, and cages only gave the option to lockpick). Once Heft was on the Horizon, I immediately sent the two on their way towards, then snapped back to my farmers to manage that. When I tried to snap the camera back to the ones I sent to Heft, I crash every time. Tested this multiple times, and it happens 100%, without fail. I don't know if this is just because of the route I'm taking (Directly from NE of Bark to Heft, last visible climbing over a mountainous mass).
If it means anything, one of the characters I sent over (the #1 slot) was a female.

(Side Note: Sleeveless longcoat is equippable for the female character, but is not visible and appears topless. I've yet to test out many other equips, but I know headgear removes all hair on the head of any character. I'm sure Chris is aware of this already)

As for portraits, its as simple as using alt+tab to minimize the game. Returning to the game after alt+tabbing causes the character portraits to become gray, and I've been restarting the game up until this point to fix it (because I can't stand the gray). ctrl+esc appears to do the same thing.

Graphics Card: Geforce GTX 260
Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
Processor: AMD Pheon(tm) II X4 925 - 2.80 GHz
RAM: 8 GB

All of my drivers should be up to date.
I'm on the steam copy of Kenshi.

I just want to add that changing the headgear (moving it out and then into the slot again works) gets the pictures back, but slightly changed (different angle)

moving something in your inventory fixes the Disappearing Portraits.
also saving and reloading does it to.
Do you believe the sexes should be equal?
Oh heavens no.
Then Men would become unmanageable

As well, not sure, how it works on other jobs, but if you ask character to work on training dummy, portrait refreshes too.
As portrait refreshes on certain events, as well take it from active character, it's quite buggy.

Is there anyone who has experienced crashing near Heft as well? I think I'm going to start a new world, as all of the other cities save Heft are incredibly far away from my outpost; meaning I won't be testing an approach from different angles of Heft. I only have tested the direct (roughly) route from Bark.

Having the same issue with transitioning from Traders Edge to Brink...I rounded up my whole team of 20, and set up my outpost in the bowl south of Trader's Edge and east of Port South. When I attempt to make a supply run to Brink, as soon as it attempts to load the map chunk with Brink in it, the game crashes. I had a look at the log file and I saw a ton of unable to create (object) errors right at the time the game crashed...Oddly enough, I've only been able to duplicate this when i have a full squad, and I've established an outpost.

I also noticed that we just had a new patch this morning, so I'm going to continue beating the heck out of the game and see how the new patch affected things :D. Will follow up and let you know if this resolved the issue. (Oh, and I started my game with "Rock Bottom", Female character, though I don't think initial character model choice would matter).

Loving the cannibals, though it's "eating" into my early profits of scavenging and beating up dust bandits for their armor and boots and weapons and stuff :P...

If you use Steam, you can easily fix some things by running check of game cache. (right click on game in library > properties > local files > last button)

That way I fixed loading crash and other city visiting crash. Worth try.

Well said, Anderty...For those of us who have both the Steam AND the Non-Steam copies of the game, make sure that you run the WyUPDATE application to make sure that your non-Steam copy of the game is patched to the most current version. It also helps to pull down a fresh copy of the game from the Lo-Fi Games DL site/mirrors from time to time, as well.

Hope this helps!
