RAM usage in relation to crashes, [v0.67.2]

Dell XPS420
Vista 32-bit Home edition
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz
3GB DDR2 RAM
AMD Radeon HD 7700 w/ 1GB GDDR5 VRAM

I've heard that other players have encounter the same crash issues I'm experiencing as the RAM usage approaches 3-3.5GB based on it being a 32-bit application. I'm not sure why mine is hitting a wall so much lower, but I have to consider the game broken where my current party is concerned. I've considered that my computer only having 3GB RAM total could be an issue, but even with Kenshi running at it's crash level I never use more than 85%.

Progress:
20 party members, a bunch of tech benches, mining facilities,
4 houses, two processors, most crafting facilities, all within
a large walled outpost.
Lowering graphic to ridiculously low levels helped slow the consumption for awhile, but it's past the point of being even vaguely playable.

Will attempt a new game and just focus on party progression and see if the results support
my guess that party size and outpost building is what's causing
the RAM usage issue.

Any ideas on what I may be overlooking?

Lower your squad size multiplier, and/or do not use the 4x speed.
The 4x speed is wildly broken, and will crash you very quickly.

Also, I don't know about others, but I'm on a 64b system, and 3.7 is when I'll crash. But that can be numerous hours, depending on my squad multiplier.

As for your crashing in seconds, I do know that at some point depending on the content of your game, your game can load at significantly higher ram usage.

For tests sake, lower your squad/pop to 0.5, and import buildings/research into a new game, and see how long you hold out.

with 3gb of ram on your MB you have very little extra to use for the game. Especially with its current memory leak issue
you might crash fast because you also have other programs running in the background using ram as well, including your OS.
If you want Kenshi to run on your computer you will need to do two things. easiest but no where near cheap, get a new computer
Second and the hardest, is go thru and set up a special bootup that uses the fewest amount of resources for your computer.

Until the memory leak is fixed, you might be out of luck for game play at this time.

If you're running kenshi on unmodified 32 bit windows, your RAM used by game is limited by 2Gb (minus service RAM makes is about 1.7-1.8 Gb).
Kenshi uses /LARGEADDRESSAWARE flag in compile-time meaning on 64 bit windows it can use up to 4 Gb RAM(minus service RAM it makes about 3.6-3.7 Gb).

That's just how 32-bit applications work, only things devs can do is to fix memory leaks and optimize RAM usage.

We all hope devs will fix memory leaks because it's unplayable right now...

Upgrading RAM isn't much of an option, as 32bit Vista caps out at 3.5 GB. I could stick 8GB in if I wanted, and it wouldn't do bupkis.

I didn't realize the system limited RAM usage below the maximum available, that is useful information.
I do have another computer:

AMD FX-8350, 16GB DDR3, AMD Radion HD 7700, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

Unfortunately something has died in it. In fact, something very briefly caught fire and then extinguished itself before I got a clear view of it's location. Tested the power supply and it checks out, so I'm thinking it's either the processor or the motherboard. The problem is when I press the power button the case lights fire up for a second then go dark and nothing starts. Pressing the power button after it results in nothing. After a little while, pressing the power button again makes the lights come on and it dies in the same fashion. I'd love to get it up and running, but my funds are extremely limited. Might be able to fix it when tax refunds come in, but I'd like to find a way to verify that it is either the motherboard or the processor (or given the fire, both) and not something else like the case itself.

And I am an idiot...

Kinda forgot about my laptop. Normally only use it when traveling, but in this situation it might help.
AMD Phenom II N970 2.2GHz Quad, 4GB RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium.
I don't use it at home because the video adapter is just a mobility Radion HD 4250 with 256 vram, but I'll see how it handles with everything turned down way low.

It runs much more stably now. Excruciatingly slow due to video card, but I got more than an hour consecutive playtime, a first for me. Now maybe I'll generate some useful crash data. lol.
