hi, I played Kenshi for a few days straight now.. barely slept.. yea, insane.. I love this game. or at least.. the idea, I will love it more when it will be released and bug free. anyway, my story:
I started in the regular version, not the latest experimental one. I made a team of 20, roamed the wilds and killed-a-plenty. all went great until I started building stuff. the walls, at all levels probably , are messed up and I'm sure it's well known. like not being able to draw them without errors that the terrain is not flat enough.. hen in fact it is, or not connecting well to the gates, or creating the craziest geometry joinings. I wish they were simpler and more reliable, instead of trying to follow contours and failing so badly : > like.. placing modular walls of standard sizes.
so I had some of my guys stuck on top of some level 1 wall, no idea how they got there [later, with the highest level walls I noticed they were jumping crazy style, top to bottom of the wall.. but without getting stuck]. I didn't know what to do so I opened the editor and removed piece by piece the segments that were evil. I could only remove one segment, exit editor, rebuild navmesh, save, exit Kenshi, restart.. or else crash if I tried to remove the second segment.
you guys really need to allow us to take down walls btw..
finally I ended up with segments I couldn't remove and I pressed re-path.. dunno why. I did not save. but I got a crash and ended up with a corrupted save.. or something. I tried to import into a new file, it worked but the saves were taking a few minutes to load. I uninstalled and re-installed Kenshi from Steam, opened the save I made by importing the old save, and this worked. I just lost my buggy city but that was ok.
at this point I also upgraded to the latest experimental version.. 0.69 or somethin.. cuz I discovered I really like the updates to the tech tree and lots of small overall improvements, better sunset... : >
but I noticed.. not only the bandits are way more numerous now, which changes the balance of the game quite a lot, but they got much much much much stronger. maybe because of my corrupted save ; / I was shocked at first and I was hoping I'll figure it out.. maybe I need to learn something new about the new balance of the game. but. it doesn't make sense. after further upgrading [I think I covered most the tech tree, gave my swordsmen bunch o good armor and weapons.. and training.. and I was ready to upgrade to heavy samurai armor, turn them into tanks and go massacre some cannibals..]
but instead of tanks.. I'm being massacred by the weakest hungry bandits in game. they had 4-7 attack and defense, and rusty bars or the occasional sword.. and were weak. my guys.. more towards 20-40 attack and defense and pretty good weapons, armor, 20-ish strength, speed.. you name it. I should have chopped through those bandits like.. anyway, instead, they pack a punch like demon zombies from hell... haha. and I end up with 20 of my men fighting 14 of theirs. and my men fall like flies. so... at this point I wish there was a difficulty multiplier I could tweak somewhere cuz this is definitely a bug.
anyway, I liked the earlier, more atmospheric and lonely Kenshi, it's what made it different and special, when you were fighting some bandits it was a meaningful event, I was looting almost everything. now they're everywhere, like cockroaches. : D
oh man, sorry for the enormous story : <

first of all
welcome to the Forums. and we thank you for your detailed report.
Lets see if i can clear some of your issues up.
Wearing heavy armour even if your stats are at 20 ( Base ) is no guarantee you can use things competently. Heavy Armour comes with negatives with movement, speed and combat ability. but a plus against edged weapons. Blunt weapons just means they get to use you like a the game kick the can.
Be aware of the states your armour and weapons give you. especially the negatives. this can put your stats at or even make them negative. So all in all the bandits had an advantage of training over your own even though your stats are higher.
The walls have been an issue since day one. then they got removed due to bugs and pathing issues, were later re added due to popular demand but the pathing hadn't been fixed yet, so same issues came back. This should be fixed when the new pathing engine is added. this is also why its difficult to remove the walls without the game crashing. each time you do the current pathing engine tries to rebuild itself around the object and as we all know, it doesn't always work. this includes when dismantling said walls or any other structure. there really is no current work around for this.
Also on a side note, we don't recommend anyone use the ingame editor at this time due to the bugs it creates with your game.
In experimental there is the difficulty slider which can increase or decrease toughness of the game. we call it the death slider. this is only in the experimental 69.2 right now.
Hope this helps.

Do you believe the sexes should be equal?
Oh heavens no.
Then Men would become unmanageable

I didn't see the difficulty slider in 0.69.2.. I'll look again.
Btw, do bandits try to destroy buildings or just the gates?

just doors and gates if your people are behind them.
hungry bandits will destroy doors if there are supply chests behind them and proceed to loot them if there is anything in them.
Slider is in the main menu under options.

This is all I have under Options > General:
Tutorials,
Autosave,
Autosave Time,
Show Character Names,
Edge Scrolling,
Population Settings: Squad Size multiplier
Population Settings: Global Population Multiplier
Population Settings: Civilians in towns
Error Fix Settings: Force Single Thread
Error Fix Settings: No terrain cutting
And I'm running 0.69.2
I don't want to change the number of bandits.. just their strength. I mean I already played 40+ hours of Kenshi before these bandits became all of a sudden superpowerful [after importing into a new scene/game]. So the numbers made sense, now they don't. I'd like to balance them : >
Thanks!

awesomesauce! thx Dorrin!
I made a new import, including the buildings, left all values at 1 [dunno what happened there last time cuz I don't remember changing those values], rebuilt the navmesh, all seems fine! I attacked a band of dust bandits.. they didn't know what hit them! : D
now my army is marching through the dessert while listening to Mozart's early piano concertos.. I mean.. joyful and relaxed : >
thx guys!
