Yeah, since the game is geared for characters being primarily 1 v 1 with blade weapons, it makes sense to be reluctant about adding a major new concept, especially if the current system was difficult to create. I can agree on that. Animals would be cool but aren't super necessary in my opinion, and since the game is geared towards the gritty human survival idea, it might honestly be better to keep them out. also I don't think a pack mule should be added, lol.
