Technically it is a Tachi (I looked it up on wikipedia just to sound like a snob), it is awesome. Nice work. It is interesting to be that some blades remain Asian looking and other's do not. The ringed saber is still eastern looking due to it's distinctive, but the 'katana' has lost all eastern influence altogether. These designs fit in so well, especially considering some of the new artwork.
I think I prefer realistic blades by a small margin, because of the realistic emphasis on sword play. Remember the bit when Chris shortened the Plank to make it more 'realistic'? However, I find your aesthetic less jarring than the Japanese one. I am really interested in the new art coming out soon, it will reveal a lot. The medieval Asian, and post industrial collapse themes are really wrestling with each other now.

Here's a version i made of the Horse Chopper sword
http://i.imgur.com/MWqov.jpg
I think it looks pretty good despite being a bit simpler than the others, though i wanted to keep that visceral simplicity to it like the original
p.s. I know i re-use resources, i try to keep them all familiar
Also I used Kenshi textures again to try and make it feel even more fitting to the game's atmosphere

These are so awesome. The horse chopper... just... sexy. At the risk of sounding silly, you should try to make them a more copper coloured rust. Make them look dirty except for the blade, and then maybe the really high quality ones the metal will be shiny silver (cause you know, they vary in degree of rust/quality). Or you can disregard me completely because I'm critiquing when I would have no hope of ever doing what you are right now.

Who would disregard constructive criticism? lol, well i actually used a texture from kenshi called Orange for the horse chopper one, the first ones with the maroonish/pink texture was just a test texture, i've been meaning to redesign the katana with a more detailed texture so i'll get on that and post in a bit.zibathy wrote:These are so awesome. and i'll see how making them have a silvery texture will also look

Well, here's a rusty katana for ya'll. I think i did okay, though i'm not sure if it's orangey enough, but i think it looks pretty sexy. i made the handguards as asymmetrical as i could while preserving the texture quality (the two pieces are actually one object) and realized after posting i forgot to age the handle. oh well.

idk
idk

Made a little katana. Tried to make it more unique instead of a rehash of material like i've been doing
http://i.imgur.com/ERpA3.png
And thar she be.
And I also made it really thin, i mean who wants a fat sword?
[Edit] I realized the first mini-katana image was flawed, so i fixed it and re-posted.

Touched up my katana, made it thinner, improved the blade (Found an old sword model i'd made and took its blade
), improved bolts, improved sexiness

Old is on top, new on bottom
Also I noticed there's new concept art for Kenshi on indieDB, check it out if you haven't! It's pretty sick!

I really liked the versions of the katana and the ringed blade you made.
You could try to make a Nodachi like that as there are no huge katanas in the game right now and it would be so imposing to walk around with a big chunk of blade holded together by what looks like salvaged metal!
xD
