Hey why not make it so your people can level out terrain whether in the the building process or time added to it so the building can look more level and not randomly sticking halve way into a mountain or dune or having a piece of the terrain sticking through the rough of the building.
I mean this would make the construction of walls so much easier and make them have a cleaner and more appealing look (when walls are finally re-introduced that is)

Playing xbox since... wait, i dont play that shit.!

Interesting idea, and it makes sense, however time would be a serious factor here. Although realistically possible there is a reason most structures and settlements follow the natural terrain. Modern equipment makes the option more feasible, but even with our technology and machines it is usually more efficient to 'go with the flow' as it were.
That said, I think having the option would be awsome, but it would have to be appropriately expensive and time consuming.

I agree with the time consuming aspect but the expense not so much realistically yes it should cost more but say for a building that would cost 40 BM (Building Materials) ad say 10% to the cost to make the terrain level making that building cost 44 BM now instead and to add to what I previously said why not add the ability to level a whole section of land as well.
Yes this would make it difficult to calculate the cost to do such a thing if you used the leveling aspect as depend on terrain type but to get it started why not implement a simpler form that goes by area to be leveled to get it started then move onto by terrain type as the game further develops

Would you try and change the landscape or just fill it with a flat foundation?

That would all depend on what type of terrain you are trying to change but I don't think many people would like to just have flat foundation because it would make the appearance of their town or outpost or whatever type of group of buildings look sloppy so yes you would have to be able to change the landscape

First I'd like to point you to That's not up to code! - Solving untrue buildings.
I'm fairly certain having platforms or foundations would work for most everything. They could also be used to build in places that would normally be impossible, like a mountainside, and look aesthetically pleasing in most cases.
The only thing it might look odd with (that I can think of) would be walls. In which case I think we should have a button we can hold while building to snap our buildings in the two vertical rotations to 0 (eliminate building tilt but let it remain rotated in parallel with the flat plane). I think this would work well because most buildings in Kenshi extend well below the sand to be able to handle uneven surfaces, but they also try to match the angle of those surfaces for some reason and that's where the real problem is.
