Steel Bars for weapon smithing III
EDIT 2: (Link in OP updated) I've tweaked the numbers quite a bit, so the creation isn't instant anymore - Forgot to set a production/day at 100% efficiency limit... Also changed the values around so it now takes 6 coal and 3 iron ore to make one steel bar. Dunno if this is too much, but felt more fair to me.
Also, the problem with storage seems to be related to the operator grabbing more materials than the furnace can hold - This causes some sort of bug after a cycle or two. If you remove the backpack on the dude operating it, so he can never carry more than 6 iron ore (I've changed the furnace item limit to 12 and 6 for coal and ore respectively) then you should be running without problems.
-------
EDIT: Thanks to Revan Tair for finding the error in my uploaded file and DJ Die for taking the time to fix it for me.
-------
For those who've gotten to the Weapon Smithing Bench III and have no way of gathering steel, I've added a few new buildings to allow you to make your own.
It contains:
Coal mine (ore mine model)
Steel furnace (generator model)
Storage for Steel Bars and Coal
The Steel Furnace requires 2x Coal + 1x Iron Ore to create 1x Steel Bar
All the above need to be researched from a Research Bench III.
The numbers for production speed might need some tweaking, but I've quickly tested it, and it seems to be working.

Sadly, it is not working
I built the steel furnace but it says this is too crappy to make anything

I'll confirm this isn't working at all. The steel refining "bench" needs to be upgraded according to it in order to make steel bars.

You can make the steel furnace functional, if you go to the FCS (Forgotten Construction Set), don't forget to load the mod too, then under: Buildings -> Functionality -> steelrefining. There you must click on the left side under 'function', set the function to: 'BF_STONE_REFINERY' (from 'BF_CRAFTING).
Oh bugger. Revan is obviously right.
After I did the test I started mucking seeing if I could get it to produce armor (like the weapon smithing bench makes weapons) - Didn't find any way to do it, but must've accidently saved some of the changes...
Change it as Revan said (on break at work atm, so can't do it myself right now) - That should do the trick.

I hope you dont mind if ill upload the fixed version for those unsure how to do it....or just too lazy to do it themselves

Yup, totally works like a charm now. I was still head scratching a little at why my production was so slow until I remembered that I hadn't built steel storage yet. Doh!
Yeah the final production happens really fast but the coal takes time because the steel producing AI doesnt use the storages properly for some reason....since i know nothing whatsoever about the AI in this game i cant really guess why though...even though a temporary solution it still works surprisingly well

Which .mpeg? In both version there is only 1 data included, the steelcreation.mod and this one goes under /Kenshi/data (same place where the vurt.mod is).Kaneusta wrote: Sorry, complete noob here.
Where do I put the .mpeg exactly to make this mod work?
Seriously? But in the file I got from the modified version a few post down (Not the one in the OP), it was a steelcreation.rar -> which showed an .mpeg file for me.Revan Tair wrote:Which .mpeg? There's an easy way to dial back the production speed to make it more "realistic" and in line with the other production processes... Load up the FCS and load the steelcreation mod along with the Gamedata file, then under buildings --> Functionality --> Steelrefining, and decrease the "Production Mult*" from it's default value of 1 down to 0.1. this will make the production speed occur 10x slower than the default. to slow it down even further, you could drop the value down to 0.05 (20x slower), 0.04 (25x slower), or even 0.01 (100x slower). this way you can tweak it to your individual tastes if you want. I find that setting the value to 0.05 feels the best, and keeps me at pace with the mining teams digging the ore and coal...DJ Die wrote:Yeah the final production happens really fast but the coal takes time because the steel producing AI doesnt use the storages properly for some reason....since i know nothing whatsoever about the AI in this game i cant really guess why though...even though a temporary solution it still works surprisingly well
Hope this helps...

I've found this bug when it comes to Fabric Looms and Rum Stills. It happens when the operator has a trader's backpack so that he is able to carry more than the maximum limit of the input. An easy workaround is to set the max limit of the input to 10 instead of 5.Fulgore wrote:Also, the problem with storage seems to be related to the operator grabbing more materials than the furnace can hold - This causes some sort of bug after a cycle or two. To do this, Open FCS -> Buildings -> Functionality, and in each Item the Consumes is the input limit and Produces is the output limit.
Enjoy and thanks for the mod!
