Ageing

After playing the game for many hours it starts to get slightly stale, as you get all these pumped up squad members who are almost immortal, so I am suggesting that ageing is added meaning that after a certain point the character will die of age.
Of course that seems unfair that your character just dies and that's it so extra thing that could be done is marriages and children to be added, also and children that are made from 2 characters will have certain traits and skills passed down from parents so if one character has high strength the child could have a larger amount of starting strength.
If perks are added then the child could start with some or none of them in a way that Shin Megami Tensei's fusion allows skills to be randomly from the parent's meaning that you don't lose all the handwork that you put into your main character.

would be cool to have DF stylr tombs and migrants to your bigger settlements.
Maybe make tomb stealing a real threat, and add monuments for your greatest fighters that boost the settlements fighting morale, etc. Even hunt for artefacts stolen from thy .

Please search in the search box "marriage" and you will see that there's already a topic about it.

That was not the main suggestion I said that if marriages and children were added the main suggestion is having characters ageiSuck345 wrote:Please search in the search box "marriage" and you will see that there's already a topic about it.

Kind of a shame but i can see the problems of implementing thisskynet464 wrote:Aging has already been discussed, and it is the conclusion that it should probably not be in the game.
Yeah it's just that deciding how long they live would be a pain and tbh once they start aging to the point where they get weaker by the month I'd just kill them and replace them so yeah it would be kinda cool but people would just turn it into "taking out the trash" and it would lose all meaning.
hi
I am doubtful that aging would be a good addition to the game, at least to a certain extent. The game does have a system of days to add a sense of time, so as long as they age in a human-like manner I see no major problems. The lesser issue I would see is what was mentioned earlier with the 'taking out the trash' idea. If there were more jobs and roles for the men to be assigned to, some of which are not reliant on manual labor, then I would be for this idea 100%. However as it is now, the elderly men would have little use. I suppose you could always build a really large shop and have them stand at the door like a Walmart greeter. "Welcome to Walmart. Get your sh*t and get out."
If the main reason for this is to reduce population, I say there are better ways to do this. I think the best solution here would be to make living through difficult combat experiences less common. For example, lets say you take a large blunt object to the head taking you down instantly to -100 for the head health, the likelihood of surviving should be damn near zero. Same with taking crushing damage to the chest, collapsed lungs would be difficult for medics to handle I assume. Same with slashing weapons opening a deep wound in the stomach. Stuffing intestines back in and holding them with bandages seems a bit unlikely to guarantee survival. Bleed rate should probably be increased slightly as well.
While aging is not a bad idea, I would prefer this method instead. Sucks to lose guys you spent hours/days/weeks training, but it would be worse to lose them just from time running out :p

I agree with the above. I think instead of OP hits that do -500 damage the world should just be more dangerous in general. There should be larger attacks that are two squads instead of one on your city and they should happen more often. Also I think if your person goes unconscious and nobody is there to defend his body, they should execute him. Like if he gets 5v1'd and take 4 of them down in glorious battle but his friends are off fighting 30 meters from him, they'll stab him while he's down and go after his friends.

The user that suggested marriage and reproduction also talked about aging.pirdulitis wrote:That was not the main suggestion I said that if marriages and children were added the main suggestion is having characters ageiSuck345 wrote:Please search in the search box "marriage" and you will see that there's already a topic about it.

This could always be included into a CHECKBOX when starting a new game. (Hardcore etc) I feel like it would be a great addition. The solution to the "Taking out the trash" idea would be that retirement is an option. The old PLAYER will now be an NPC unless he wishes to be recruited again after experiencing a boring commoners life, (Not always the case, some may love it.) would then travel to a city and live there. You could also have the marriage thing with kids. Love should not be force-able I think. Having the option to send a member to live or rest in a town for a while and he happens to fall in love or falls in love with a female in the squad. (just thinking straight because I am, it could happen with an opposite sex I would imagine.) (Resting/Visiting Town would let the squad member heal and raise morale possibly if they add that.) Visiting towns would have the character automatically walk around and do tasks (chat, sleep, or chill etc lol). This is just my thoughts on how I would like it. If done correctly I do not think it would be a problem! As for time to live it would be slightly random with elements of how he/she has lived their life. Healthy/Dangerous/Wounded a lot(maybe not a good idea to add this factor)/Sluggish/Drinking problem etc.

No count me against this idea. I don't like it at all.
Hi,
+1 against ageing !
However, instead of ageing, you could think, and maybe that's already been discussed, stats deteriorating if no work has been done in a long time.
Basically, if you let a character alone and doing nothing for a while, his stats (and i'd rather not see his combat stats deteriorating but it may sound logical), for labouring, medic, crafting etc would be reduced by a percentage each days down the starting value which i think is 0.26 for labouring/crafting and first aid i don't remember well ...
Of course it would be a slow process, not a too drastic effect. For example a character with a 80 first aid skill would go down to 79 in two - three days if no healing to anyone has been done by himself. This could make assining jobs more relevant, as your smith doesn't need to actually craft something to keep his skill up, just to man the crafting bench a day or two before going on a bandit hunt for three days.
But he would still need to go back and craft if you wish him to keep improving/maintain his skills. Then as long as he comes back within a week and craft something or man the bench for a day or two he gets his lost point and maybe gain another one three days later or something ...
Since i think buildings, mines and processors/generators will be likely to suffer from the environnement (after all, not just the doors have "condition" stats), it should be the same for characters. At least for their non-combat skills.
