First off, who remembers the other games with medics? The few that there are, are usually playable characters who use magic, or syringes with magic fluid, or a magic bandage. Very realistic huh? Now, moving on. The medic has many tasks in real life, the question is how to incorporate them into a game? Well here are a few ways I thought of that might be a little better than "magic".
1) DRINK WATER- The medic is usually the one who makes sure the troops under him are fed and hydrated, because for some reason it's hard for most of the other soldiers (Not even lying): In game- the medic would automatically make sure that the troops around him stay hydrated and fed, and not let their meter fall bellow X as long as provisions are available. If there was no medic in the group then hunger and thirst would have to be taken care of manually by the player. (Provided thirst and hunger are added to the game)
2) CLINIC DUTY- No medic really likes clinic duty it's boring and people are whiners: In game- this clinic could be set up in your base (and the towns would have their own) and this would be how your party would be healed (never liked the idea how just sleeping heals serious injury), the principle would be the same as sleeping but instead you would go see the doc in he clinic, and maybe have it look like he's patching them up while the timer clicks down. Also around your base maybe your guys could visit automatically if health is low enough. Like after a bandit raid.
3) MEDICS HEAL, FIGHTERS FIGHT- Infantrymen barely know what a 14ga catheter is for let alone the difference of HemCon and regular saline (O_o), in game fighters can heal alright but the medic is the medic for a reason. He could heal to a greater capacity than every one else (like decreasing the yellow bar maybe?).
4) COMBAT MEDICS- Medics fight on occasion but if they are fighting shits really hit the fan: In game- the medic shouldn't fight much, ever. Instead I wonder if the AI could be programed to hang back out of the fight and wait until a guy is down, then he rushes in and picks up his buddy and rushes off to a safe distance and heals him after X amount of time. He would only jump into the fight when things have gone to complete hell and is one of only a few, if not the only one left (maybe?).
This is all for now. I think about this topic a lot and I've mentioned some of the content in other posts but have had no real discussion of it, so now it gets its own post. As a former combat medic myself this is something I know quite a lot about and would love to here your opinions on. More to come when I think of it. Thank you all for reading.
The Medic and his role in Kenshi.
To refill the yellow bar there's already the brown medkit as far as I know.
You can also RPly implement your medic, by creating a building dedicated for beds, but instead, you let your medic in, and use the brown medkit on your characters. It's sandbox, you do things the way you like it
Also, if there's prothetic limbs, I really hope to see surgeons and mechanics to heal/repair damaged flesh/mechanicals limbs

I don't mind the clinic idea except maybe... Make it so that "hospital beds", as it were, act as automatic first aid as well as healing devices. As far as I know, in beds as they are now, you have to use first aid kits to get your injuries patched up before sleeping back to full health. These clinic beds could be different from normal beds in that they don't require the use of a first aid kid.
Then again, the requisite of first aid before sleeping off injuries does drive home the "survival in a difficult environment" aspect... It's a tough call which way to go on that. :/

The beds could be retextured to be hospital beds or add it as an upgrade on the regular bed. I'm now thinking that you could assign a medic to like a crash cart (crash cart is a medical cart with supplies, rather than a building, like what Marilous said about hospital equipment) same as if it were a work station like a farm. As your town experiences raids or what ever (Harsh weather? animal attacks?) the medic would leave his station to collect the injured put them in beds and heal them and send them on back out to do what ever. As long as they are the vicinity of your town and have the upgraded beds so the AI would use those in his building with the crash cart, rather than putting them in any ole bed, it would be automated too. The guy doesn't even HAVE to really be labeled as medic, could just be the guy with the highest medic skill. But I think if you were able to assign the job as a role if their skill is high enough. Like you do to run jog walk, or the way when a guy carries a heavy weapon he's now your heavy guy, like the way assigning a guy to work on a farm or mine makes him your worker. Then instead of having to hit the medic and rescue buttons as queues, it would all be bundled into one button that could be toggled on and off and carried out by the AI. You could even make them a little cinematic and have the medic applying bandage or something when healingtakataka wrote:I don't mind the clinic idea except maybe... With the incoming jobs, medic could be easilly one of them, would just be needed to implant the buildngs need for it, could then be placed in a rgular building, or do a specific building for it, a clean one tho
.
But i like this ideas too, we know there will be jobs, so there could and should be destinguishes on them, especially if a medic, not much else i cna say here for now at least.
