The hardest game i have ever played is a recent 2012 indie game.

Faster Than Light:

The ultimate goal of this game is to reach your allied fleet before the rebellion fleet catches you.

I have alot of fun with this game, and it can be played a great number of ways.
The thing that makes this the hardest game ive ever played is that players must adapt every time they play. You cant expect to get certain weapons or even to be able to buy weapons at all in the entire game, You need to plan what you might want or need as options are given to you.

This game is very much a gamble, by helping one person over another you could gain an ally or you may gain 2 enemies.

While your ship can become extremely powerful, there is a limit to how much you can get in each area due to the rebellion behind you. To make upgrading your ship even harder, You must use the same "income" for upgrades as you do in shops.

As i am only playing on easy, I cant wait till i beat the game and am hoping there is a "hard" unlockable difficulty :D

I found FTL a little disappointing. So much potential and it just seems a bit empty once you have played a bit.

The most difficult game I am playing now, however, is Rogue Legacy. It is a side scrolling hack and slash where you run around a randomly generated dungeon. The catch, you will die. In fact, you are expected to die. But not to worry, all your gold will be available for your family to use after you.

So each new 'life' is a new child in the family. You have a choice of 3 each time and they all have a variety of little bonuses and negatives as well as different classes. There are humourous ones like Irritable Bowel Syndrome where your character will randomly fart each tome he jumps and then there are serious ones like Vertigo where the entire screen is flipped and you are running along the roof. not to mention a few dozen others mixed in throughout; some useful, some less so.

The good part about losing your character is that you use their gold to build up your family mansion to give yourself better stats and unlock new classes in the future, You can also buy equipment that carries over from family member to family member.

The game starts is some arbitrary year of about 800AD and each child is a generation later; roughly 20-40 years between them. I am currently in about 4500AD. Lots of people have died in my family....its fucking hard this game. But oh so fun.

I'm going to have to go with Dwarf Fortress. Not that Dwarf Fortress is super hard, but more because of the ludicrous learning curve.

It gets much easier once you know what you are doing, but those first few fortresses are the most !fun! of all. If it isn't starvation, secret !fun! or a lone carp then it is definitely the coveted blood party (PG 13) known as the tantrum spiral.

Plus there's always that moment when you try to get fancy and your complicated irrigation system ends up flooding the entire fortress as you watch your entire fortress drown while the few who made it out end up getting slapped around by a bronze titan.

And of course, who can forget ROBOT UNICORN ATTACK: http://games.adultswim.com/robot-unicor ... -game.html

And depending on what constitutes a game I'm surprised nobody has mentioned QWOP :P

@Blxz: Is Rogue Legacy worth it? I've been looking at it for some time and, I must say, the concept sounds really awesome.

Oh god yes. The first two nights I played it I only stopped because my fingers literally stopped working properly. If you have a compatible controller (which I don't) I highly recommend you use one of those. Failing that try and get the optimal keyboard configuration so you can play as long as you find yourself wanting to.

And be prepared to lose a lot without being disheartened. My friend got drunk while playing and threw his beer across the room because he couldn't handle dying so bloody often.

Well with my birthday coming up I reckon I will definitely make sure I get myself a key for Rogue Legacy then. 8-)

I just hope I don't throw any beer across the room. That would be worse than setting an orphanage on fire.

Hmmm....beer. On that note I think it's beer O'clock somewhere. Time to seize the day :P

I hope they bring out a hard mode for Rogue legacy, like needing to kill every boss with one guy

If you play Mount & Blade/warband There is a couple of mods that are nice n hard.
Prophecies of Pendor: much harder but also suitable for tryhards, try killing the elves
Bryntenwalda: very well made and offers lots of extras, only really hard at first
PROMOD: this will test your skills, you have a few days to get started and then a faction that is stronger in every way invades the land. They have armies much larger and stronger than pendor and the hardest thing is that your still at war with the other factions. (basically its an alien invasion  )

In Rogue legacy they are yes, but i was talking about IWBTG.

lol the generation in RL needs a little fixing, yesterday i fought a miniboss that killed it self. Giant headless horse ran into walls covered in spikes

the sequel is called "I wanna be the guy: Gaiden"
Gaiden is an episodic side story following The Lad in his search for The Kid/Guy

Thanks for the correction. I've not actually played the IWBTG stuff and have only heard about it second hand.

And you clearly have good taste in M&B mods. Prophesy of Pendor is a damn fine one. I'm not a very good player though so don;t really have the motivation to play a real game. I just like to import my super stat modded character and cut stuff up.

Oh fucking yes! I finally beat rogue legacy. 141 generations over 13 hours. (This equals a death every 5 and a half minutes)

Last boss was awesome. And my final guy was well named. Sir Useless the 4th. Good on you useless.

How is it? I've only played Dwarf Fortress in both adventurer and fortress mode, but I never tried Slaves of Armok.

Dark Souls all the way.

I've played the game for a long time, and still have not beat it, mostly because I play it solo without helping or getting help by others. Fun game though.

I've lost to a bush... TWICE. In the same universe. Just play it and you'll see.

Haha wow I'll definitely check it out then. Have you tried adventurer mode in Dwarf Fortress? I'm yet to die to a bush, but I picked a gopher up by it's legs once and then it ripped my throat out after which I bled to death. This same character took on a werewolf and killed it just prior to GOPHER INCIDENT FOXTROT MIKE LIMA.

Airfortress for the NES was a nasty game. I have found few people who have played it, and fewer who have beaten it.
