The issue I'm having is that the traders that were supposed to be fixed aren't. I've always had the issue of the trader "party" coming to my town then immediately turning around, walking 50 meters, coming back and repeating the process. My large shop counter is stocked with weapons and booze. Everything is set to public as well
I started my game in the previous update and just recently imported my squad into a new game. The same issue is happening...
Running to the nearest town only take a minute or two but for convenience it would be nice to have a fix for this issue....

You set the building itself to public as well? You can click on the door to the building and set it to public, if that is done and the town is public I'm not certain what is wrong precisely. Could you zip up your quicksave directory and upload it?
Both the town and building are public
I've attached the saved game. Deleting the large shop counter and replacing it didn't fix the issue either...
I'd also like to add that I noticed occasionally one trader from the party will run directly into my town, stand in my research building (the one next to the trading building) for about 5 seconds then run back to the main group. Changing the building's setting to private did nothing to quell this issue..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vf4BxLMAPTc <-- video proof merchants kind work.
Around 21-23 seconds in, a Merchant finally runs in and buys something, then goes back to his continued loop running around my town and shop.
This recording was actually 56minutes and 15seconds of footage with the NPC's just running back and forth in front of my shop.
So it kinda works, but the AI is going silly, almost an hour of them doing laps before a Merchant buys something.
Im still sitting here watching them doing laps while i edit the vid and type up this thread, this is well over an hour at this point, and they only bought 1 thing, but are still loitering at my shop.
Not sure what pathing this is, but they are still locked onto my town and have not run off, they just do laps over and over and over, only ever bought one thing, and lucky enough i left fraps running to catch it.
You can see in bottom left after i click the shop, that its all public.
I had to run my crew way off to the left, because bandits raided me and started a fight with the merchants, my crew jumped in to help the Merchants, but somehow their sword caught one of them or something, and now the Merchants are all angry and want to kill me, i can't walk my crew back into my own town without killing the merchants lol, damn auto aggression.

Yes i did those things.
It's not that they don't work, it's that they are super buggy.
They did buy stuff from the shop, you can see it in the video, but for an hour they did not leave or do anything but loops around my town, and i have no walls or anything causing them to run away and run back.
I created that town and video on the same day, it's not a town i previously had, this is a fresh town of patch 0.46.1 and tested and used all of the little tips and tricks posted.
I spent about 3 hours messing around to get the merchants to work, mostly uninstalling and re-installing while moving the left over folders, 1 hour of it was almost dedicated to filming the mess.
This was done so people could actually see what others were talking about, there is no crashdump i could force to be able to upload it.
Uploading a saved file like previously done in this thread is not the same as being able to actually look at what is being reported and might also prove problematic to reproduce the same exact bug report.

has been able to reproduce this reliably but wasn't trying to at the time.
also i have noticed when reloading from quickload or when reloading the game and continuing your game that this gets fixed and everyone buys stuff normally. but over time it starts to dwindle off. The longer i play the game with no reloading or restarts the less likely they will come in and buy and start to bunch up just outside of town.
Has tried all known forms to fix it on my end but i have come to the conclusion its the pathing AI or one of the other hickiedo's that regulate the NPC's
Every game i have played i have had this slow drop off of traders buying my stuff and then bunching up outside my town.
When walls were re added it became kinda funny cause they all would squash flat up against the wall walking back and forth in place. some so fast its like a walk stutter. reloading a game fixes it for a small bit.
