Gentlemen, gentlemen who pretend to be ladies and any resident furries out there. I am pleased to announce that I have returned from my sexy holiday in Japan and am now able to grace the Kenshi forums once again.
Fear not though, I won't be spamming much for long. I have a 4300km drive ahead of me as I move my entire life to Tasmania....by car. So, wish me luck and if you never hear from me again then spam some threads in my honour since I may have died in a car crash (or worse yet, found a house with no internet).
As of the 14th I will bid you all a farewell. On a less useless point, I was wondering if anyone in the forums has done any huge drives before and anything that you can recommend or any advice you can give? I'm doing it over about 5-8 days so taking it relatively easy but there are still quite a few 8+ hour days mixed in. I'm not really sure how to approach the back-to-back driving marathons.

most accidents happen at night when sleepy and the dark is already hampering your vision as is.
Plan you route ahead of time. include side routes for things you want to see or in case there is trouble ahead on the road.
Water, Non perishable food, Emergency blankets and matches, pocket knife, first aid kit. a hat and a jacket, Umbrella works to incase of no hat. Sunscreen, sunglasses. nonstick cooking instruments, firewood and newspaper. or camping stove. and if you can get one, a GPS unit.
and as you said, take it slow and easy, you start feeling drowsy or tired, pull over and rest.
i have done many back to back drives across the USA and thats pretty much what i did.
oh yea make sure your arm that rests on the door has sunscreen on it, you can get a sunburn if you don't.
Enjoy your drive when you do. can be lots of fun but also a pain in the ass. literally.

*music is vital. burn a couple of CDs so you dont go mad listening to the rubbish on the radio.
*Short rest every 2 hours ish.
*If you're driving in the arvo, be very wary of roos. they blend in well at dusk, come out of nowhere and will mess you up. Also wombats. Their ass is pretty much a ramp of bone so if you hit one from behind you can flip your car.
* If someone flashes headlights once, there's a hazard on the road. Twice means police and/or speed camera. Give a wave of thanks if someone warns you like this, they're risking a fine and demerit points to do so.
*Jerky is delicious and won't rot.
*If you're driving through NSW, stop by Newcastle and come over for a beer or 20.
*Sausage rolls are easier to eat one-handed than bees [(Edit: what the hell? should say bees. not *CENSORED*!)Double Edit: why can't i write p.i.e.s or b.e.e.s?!?!] or burgers.
*If you have one, take a jerry can of fuel and one of water. Overheated or empty cars are useless
*Before the trip, check your oil, coolant, Tire pressure and tread on the tires. Less bothersome to sort out in town than it is in the middle of bumf**k nowhere.
*If you smoke rollies, take the time to roll when you have a break. rolling while driving is trickier.
*On the flip side, if you can't smoke because you're travelling with kids, They'll probably ask for ice cream or a milk shake. DON'T GIVE THEM ANY UNTIL YOU'VE STOPPED FOR THE DAY!!! Especially little girls. Those motherfuckers will paint your interior with stomach grease. Juice, savoury snacks and lollies are okay, but some kids cant handle their dairy on long drives. More so in hot weather.
*If you're sleeping in your car, bring a pan, can of spam and some eggs. Can always cook brekkie on your hot engine after your first 2 hours of the day in a pinch.
*If you like the radio, keep a coat hanger in your boot in case the antennae breaks.
*bring a pair of UV protecting, glare resistant sunnies. light be harsh, yo. No need to jack up your eyes.
*Don't pick up hitch hikers unless they're hot, you're single and they are currently showing you their breasts. Wait, if they're doing that they're probably in some dire straits, and you don't need that drama, you've got somewhere to be! Stop near them, yell out "NICE ONES!" take a picture (to post on here) and drive off.
And finally,
When driving through the bass strait, roll your windows up or grow some gills.

As for driving through newcastle. I am currently doing my map plan of that exact area. Will be staying in the west somewhere near Bolton Point (if that rings any bells?). I dunno how awake I will be for beers and socialising though but if you are nearby then maybe something can be organised.
And yes, driving through the Bass Strait might produce a few problems. That is why I took the wimp way and booked a ferry ride for me and my car.

Yeah, beers wouldn't be the best idea. Driving hungover is the worst.
Bolton Point is only a few km's south west of me. I live in New Lambton Heights, which is near the John Hunter Hospital
and a FERRY?! drink some concrete mix and HTFU. ferries are for tourists and other wizards. Real 'strayans tie crocodiles to their car and are dragged along.

I think it is pretty cheap to live down there actually. It is pretty country and the biggest expense will be travelling around by car since I'll be a real country boy down there with very little around me. Most of the rest of my living expenses will be taken care of with some self sufficient farming.
Anyway, it is midnight and I need to sleep for the big drive tomorrow. Probbaly won't be on the forums for some time. Enjoy the peace and quiet.

Got some wi-fi finally. I've made it to Wangaratta just inside Victoria. About 3400km done so far. 2 days left and they are only smallish half days.
Didn't get a chance to do anything in newcastle. We had a shitty 10 hour drive and arrived late so no beers with a fellow kenshi forum dude. Maybe next time.
