Some people may know what I am talking about from the title alone.

The Elder Scrolls did it, Fallout did it, and its a recurring element in games that makes for a unique play experience each time you run the game, which, in my opinion, lines up exceptionally well with Kenshi's vision.
Having a system that generates a random encounter every other trip between two cities (or more or less frequently) brings the otherwise boring travel segments to life with the illusion that there are NPCs out there that are doing exactly what you are doing, and in Kenshi's case, this is more true than ever before, especially since Kenshi's world is about surviving and growing however possible.

For those that have never seen this concept before, random encounters are literally whenever the player encounters something, or somebody, randomly during the player's travels through the game. An example would be encountering a party of bandits waiting in ambush between point A and point B, but the next time the player travels that road, it could be an injured civilian, a stray dog looking for an owner, or two factions fighting a skirmish.

There have been posts about this before but never a dedicated thread to this topic.

Word homie sounds like something to fit right in with the Kenshiverse.

I don't like this idea because it runs counter to the Kenshiverse simulation, which is the games main selling point for me. If it spawns a random encounter then it's not a living breathing world, it's a world tailor made for me, which I don't want. Part of the appeal of the game is that the factions don't care about you, they go about their own business and live their own lives, random encounters would run counter to that.

I'm getting the feeling you're thinking "Random encounter" like "RNG generated encounter" which is not the case at all.
I was meaning "things will happen between town A and town B during your travels that will spice up the otherwise boring walks".

An example:
Your party travels from Eyesocket to Brink (Holy Nation to Dead Cat territories respectively), and you encounter a skirmish between the two factions.
Do you join the Holy Nation side, Dead Cat side, or just avoid it altogether and wait for the spoils of looting the aftermath?

Another example:
Start a new game with the Holy Sword background.
Only this time, while you're sifting through the loot of the corpses, there is another scavenger there that wields an equally as impressive weapon.
Do you duel this scavenger to the death or run from him/her?

TL:DR;
Random encounters aren't entirely random, they utilise contextual factors to produce a scenario that is relevant to your journey.

Yo holmes, it really fits in Kenshi, y'all?

Actually, there is a special word for homie - akiwa, "brother".
